Ranchi, May 11: Governor’s adviser K. Vijay Kumar today welcomed a suggestion that a centre or an assistance booth could be set up in New Delhi to help such women and children who go to the national capital to earn a livelihood but end up being exploited.

Kumar, who was attending a daylong state-level consultation on Protection of Children and Women from Violence and Sexual Exploitation today, promised to look into the matter.

Organised by social welfare, women and child development department in collaboration with Unicef, the event was attended by about 100 officials from state departments, Unicef and NGOs.

“Besides strengthening existing infrastructure like children homes and mahila thanas, stress should be also laid on counselling and awareness campaigns so that the goal is achieved easily,” he said.

Ushering in social change is a great idea, but a society can change if all do their own bit, he reminded.

“For example, a policeman is actually a civilian on patrol,” he told the police officers, urging them to motivate those under them to do good to the society.

CID IG Anurag Gupta also spoke at the seminar along with Mamta, project director of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.
