Probe team

Ranchi: The Jharkhand Olympic Association on Wednesday formed a three-member committee for an internal inquiry to probe sexual harassment charges levelled by taekwondo players against Sanjay Kumar Sharma, joint secretary of Taekwondo Federation of India.

Around two weeks back, he was arrested from Dhanbad following an FIR filed by a female player and sent to jail.

Office sealed

Ranchi: The office of Gramin Seva Co-operative Credit Society at Neelkamal Complex in Lower Bazar thana area was sealed on Wednesday after the district administration received a complaint that the society is running in violation of Reserve Bank of India guidelines.

Ranchi: John Crasta, currently Rector of St Albert's College, Ranchi, one of the largest theological colleges under the Roman Catholic Church in the country, was installed as President of the college by Cardinal Telesphore P. Toppo on Wednesday.

Drawing competition

About 110 physically and mentally challenged students of Jeevan Jyoti school took part in a drawing competition at the school premises on Wednesday. The event organised by NGO Ek Aur Prayas was about teaching the students the importance of cleanliness.

IAS post rejig

Ranchi: Disaster management department special secretary K. Srinivasan has been made the director of land acquisition department. He will also be holding the additional charge of the MD of the Jharkhand Industrial Area Development Authority. Existing land acquisition department director Rajeev Ranjan has been transferred to the State Finance Commission as an officer on special duty.

Accident

Garhwa: Ten persons were injured when an autorickshaw collided with a bike in the Majhiaon area, about 22km from the district headquarters, on Wednesday. Police circle inspector S.N. Singh said the condition of two bike riders, including an examinee, was critical. They have been admitted to the sadar hospital.

IARC event

Ranchi: Indian Agriculture Research Council's (IARC) eastern wing celebrated its 17th foundation day on Wednesday. In her inaugural address, governor Droupadi Murmu advised the scientists to develop new technologies to improve agriculture productivity.

Gumla: Assembly Speaker Dinesh Oraon on Wednesday handed over loans worth Rs 4.6 crore to 406 women's self-help groups under the Jharkhand State National Livelihood Mission schemes.

Run over

Hazaribagh: A woman, Dewanti Devi (50), was crushed to death by a truck near Prince Hotel on NH-33 on Wednesday. She was riding pillion on the bike of his son-in-law when a truck hit it.

Kid back home

The five-year-old girl, who was abducted from her residence in Sakchi on February 12, was brought back home after 10 days by Sakchi police on Wednesday evening.

A city police team recovered the child from Kanpur station on Tuesday. Her abductor, Rabi Lohar (22), was arrested earlier.

Toppers

Kolhan University on Wednesday decided to hire postgraduate subject toppers as teaching assistants to help them gain experience before appearing for National Eligibility Test. Toppers will also get a monthly stipend of Rs 15,000.

A 17-year-old contract worker Swadish Sikka of Shastrinagar hanged himself on Wednesday.

Assault cuffs

Police on Wednesday arrested two men for assaulting a third youth in Mango on Tuesday night. Ranjit Giri (26) and Kunal Goswami (25), who were having booze on Tuesday night, allegedly beat up Tushant Chaki (23), Mango OC Budhram Oraon said.
