PLFI arrest
Simdega: Two PLFI supporters were arrested from Bano on Monday.
SP Rajeev Ranjan Singh said Vikas and Gulshan Kumar used to extend logistic support to the PLFI. They were produced in a local court which remanded them in 14 days' judicial custody. They have been sent to Simdega divisional jail.
JUVNL probe
Ranchi: JUVNL chairman S.K.G. Rahate on Monday formed a four-member inquiry committee, headed by IG (vigilance) to probe into the question paper leak in the recruitment exams on Sunday.
Compensation
Ranchi: Chief minister Raghubar Das on Monday sanctioned Rs 1 lakh as compensation to the family of a Class I student of Chanho primary school, Sujeet Munda, who had died following a corporal punishment in 2014.
Film selection
Ranchi: Chief minister Raghubar Das on Monday constituted a 11-member technical committee, led by actor Anupam Kher, for shortlisting films proposed to be shot in Jharkhand.
Shop shutdown
Around 300 traders in Sakchi, Jamshedpur, on Monday kept their shops shut from 10am to noon to protest against the East Singhbhum administration's crackdown on shop owners encroaching on pavements and roads.
The protesters, under the aegis of Jamshedpur Chamber of Commerce, took out a rally from Sakchi to the district collectorate and submitted a memorandum to deputy commissioner Amitabh Kaushal. "We want the administration to identify the areas of our shops in consultation with Tata Steel so that there is no confusion and we can carry out our businesses peacefully," said Mohanlal Agarwal, president of the trade body.
Suicide
A 22-year-old man hanged himself at his Dispensary Road house in Sonari in the wee hours of Monday. Police said the reason behind Suraj Lohar's suicide was still not known.
Man loses legs
A 58-year-old man lost his both legs as he slipped off a running train at Adityapur railway station, about 3km from the steel city, on Monday morning. Injured Chandra Kant Laha, a resident of Rakha Mines area in Jadugora, was rushed to Tata Main Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
Break-in
Valuables worth Rs 1 lakh were stolen from the house of a scribe, Ashok Kumar, in Sundarnagar between Friday and Sunday. He filed an FIR on Monday after returning from Bihar.
Doba order
East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Amitabh Kaushal on Monday directed district soil conservation officer Amresh Kumar Jha to speed up construction of 1,970 dobas (small ponds) and 59 ponds before June 15. The directive was given in the wake of the state government's efforts to tap rain.
Body recovered
Ranchi: The partially decomposed body of a 26-year-old push cart puller was recovered from the rented room of one Ram Kumar near Bagan Chowk in Irgu Toli on Monday.
Police said Parmeshwar Verma might have been killed after he was caught in a compromising position with someone. Ram Kumar, who is also a push cart puller, is absconding.
Protest
Ranchi: Over 50 candidates who had passed the Teachers' Eligibility Test (TET) protested at Albert Ekka Chowk on Monday against the government, demanding regularisation of their jobs. They were protesting under the JTET Safar Para Sikshak Sangh.
RMC tax solution
Ranchi: Ranchi Municipal Corporation has tied up with ICICI Bank for direct payment of property and water taxes. Residents can now deposit their tax amount at any ICICI Bank branch across India.
Law college meet
Ranchi: The two-day model United Nations Conference concluded on Sunday at NUSRL Nagri Campus on Monday. Around 80 law students deliberated on topics such as Islamophobia and same sex marriage.
Fire death
Hazaribagh: One Nago Mahto (55) died when the kiosk from where he was selling petrol caught fire at Nagwa Churchu village, 5km from the town, on Sunday night. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
