Jamshedpur, Jan. 30: Dreams and Teams, a brainchild of British Council (BC) and Youth Sports Trust, a UK-based social organisation, will soon come up with the dreams and teams clubs in schools across steel city.
Operating in over 40 countries at present, this club promotes leadership qualities and team work among students through sports and other activities and has, so far, created over 100 school links all across the globe.
“Dreams and Teams is an international programme aimed at developing young leaders through sports and cultural activities. We run training courses for overseas local tutors, who then train young people to act as young leaders and organise sports or similar kind of festivals in their communities,” said Mriganko Mouli Mukherjee, manager of school programme, Eastern India, British Council.
To be managed by the council’s Calcutta branch, ADLS Sunshine English School has been selected to carry forward the project in Jamshedpur and other cities of the state.
“Our school was one among the ten selected from Northern and Eastern India to undertake this project in its area. A team from our school was recently trained by Karen Arnold from the British Council, London, who, in turn, will now take this project to other city schools,” said Pradipta Chatterjee, the school principal.
Other schools involved in this project include Scindia school, Gwalior, Mayo School, Ajmer, Rashtriya Indian Millitary College, Dehradun and The Heritage School, Calcutta.
Another interesting aspect of the project is the international links that are created between the Indian schools and their UK counterparts.
“Our plan, in the long run, is to establish a link between schools of the two countries so that a socio-cultural exchange can be established,” added Mukherjee.
