Jamshedpur, Dec. 18: Girl students can now get an opportunity to hone their skills for jobs in the business process outsourcing (BPO) sector.
Jamshedpur Women’s College and Wipro BPO today inked a deal to start a one-year diploma course in BPO voice services at the college. The course fee will be Rs 5,000. “We always wanted to work for the cause of women and this pact will help our students to a great extent,” said Shukla Mohanty, the principal of the college.
The course will also be opened to women between 18-45 years of age from eastern region of the country namely Jharkhand, Bengal, Orissa, Bihar and Northeast.
The diploma course will be carried out in two phases. The first one being classroom training at the college campus for four months followed by eight months of specialised job and process training at Calcutta centre of Wipro. Students will also be paid during their on-job training.
The selection will start on January 18, 2010, and the batch of 25 students will start from January 25. Students after getting their diplomas can choose their working locations anywhere in India.
Technical students from Btech, BE, MBA background will not be preferred.
The criteria for the course will be basic knowledge of English language and comprehension.
“The college will be the first in the region with which we have signed this agreement to generate better skilled staff for the BPO sector,” said Alok Jain, the vice-president of talent transformation department of Wipro BPO.
