Jamshedpur: Over one lakh residents of Mango were inconvenienced by blackouts on Saturday and Sunday nights due to a technical snag in a 33KV line of Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) on Marine Drive in Kadma.
The localities that were affected were Zakirnagar, Daiguttu, Kuar Basti, Munshi Mohalla, Dimna Road, Teacher's Colony and Post Office Road. The blackouts, which started from 11.30pm and continued till the wee hours on both days, compelled residents of several apartments that do not have generator facilities to spend sleepless nights in muggy conditions.
The JBVNL office was swamped with phone calls enquiring the reason behind the power cut.
For Ashutosh Mishra, a resident of Moon City, spending two nights without AC and fan was nothing short of a nightmare.
"We couldn't sleep properly for two consecutive nights. We do not have generator facility in our flat," said Ashish Choudhary, a resident of Munshi Mohalla.
Homemaker Swati sen , a resident of Daiguttu, said the condition was insufferable.
"Even our inverter did not work due to prolonged power cut. It is strange that the state government has implemented a hike in power tariff, but it is not able to provide us quality power," she complained.
Residents also pointed out that power supply during the day had also been erratic.
"Recently, we are facing the problem of frequent power cuts. I have no clue why," said Ashish Agarwal, a chartered accountant and a resident of a flat near the Blue Bells School in Mango.
JBVNL official Chandra Shekhar said a technical snag in three insulators in the 33KV high-tension line had led to the blackouts.
"There is no supply crisis, but a sudden snag resulted in disruption," he said.
The JBVNL official attributed the frequent power cuts during daytime to the replacement of old switches and other maintenance activities.
"This is temporary," he assured.
