Plum placements: BIT-Mesra in Ranchi

Students of tech cradle BIT-Mesra in Ranchi who have lapped up jobs with top firms are likely to boast a fatter purse than their immediate seniors as most of the companies that have come for campus recruitment in 2015 have offered a better salary package than last year.

According to the college, there has been a 10 to 15 per cent hike in average salaries. For instance, four computer science students who have bagged a job with etail company Amazon have been offered a package of around Rs 22 lakh per annum each whereas last year the same company had offered around Rs 15 lakh.

Similarly, Mumbai-based web developer Directi, which has picked up two students, has offered Rs 20 lakh per annum, a hike of around Rs 2 lakh from last year.

'This year, the economy is reviving and our placements are likely to touch 90 per cent. In 2013-2014, our total placements were 84 per cent. With top domestic and international firms visiting the campus, the salary hike is between 10 and 15 per cent,' said S. Sinha, training and placement co-ordinator of BIT-Mesra.

Both Amazon and Direti had come for head hunting in the first week of January. Besides, companies like Practo and Lindstrom and Cognizant had also visited the campus. In January, 10 companies visited the campus and top recruiters like Avanti, Asahi India Glass Limited and Vodafone are expected to come in the next few days.

The recruitment drive, which started in July last year, is likely to continue till the end of February or early March. Till date, over 60 top-notch companies, including Maruti Suzuki, Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Siegwrek, Orient Electrical, Idea, Tata, Hitachi and SnapDeal, have come for head hunting.

Of all the firms that have visited the campus, leading IT company Cognizant offered the lowest package of Rs 3 lakh yearly.

Explaining the reasons, Sinha said, 'The IT sector was not affected by the recession and this year the revival has been in the core manufacturing and automobile sectors.'

These days social networking sites offers the highest pay package.

In 2012, US software giant Microsoft had offered the highest package of Rs 62 lakh per annum while Facebook offered around a crore.
