Come June 3, the prestigious Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) at Mesra will bestow as many as 3,862 degrees and diplomas to successful students during its XXII convocation ceremony.

A total 16 toppers from their respective streams will also be honoured with the coveted gold medals during the august ceremony that would witness the presence of governor cum chancellor of state varsities, Syed Ahmed and R. Gopalkrishnan, executive director of Tata Sons Limited, who would be delivering the Convocation Address.

The XXII convocation would see awarding of degrees to all PhD scholars, as well as postgraduate and undergraduate students who have qualified in their respective programmes after February 2011.

The formal function would start at 10am at the Golden Jubilee auditorium of the institute.

“Out of the 3,862 to be awarded degrees either in presence or in absentia include 2,586 undergraduates, 1,073 postgraduates, 66 PhDs and 137 diploma students. PhDs include from those from branches like architecture, engineering, management, pharmacy, science and technology,” said Prabhat Pankaj, a BIT-Mesra faculty who is in the organising committee for the XXII convocation.

The highlights of the 2011-12 academic session included a very good campus recruitment programme.

About 100 recruiters thronged the campus with as many as 1,906 job offers, leaving many students spoilt for choice due to multiple job options. Moreover, the average salary of pass outs increased to Rs 5.05 lakh per annum, with the highest national offer being Rs 16 lakh per annum and highest international offer of $119,000 (almost Rs 62 lakh) per annum.

In 2011-12, two new courses were offered which included integrated MBA and integrated MCA at several extension centres.
