Hazaribagh, May 2: Director-general of police Vishnu Dayal Ram today said Jharkhand would conduct joint operations with Bihar to check extremism in the two states.
Ram said he had a talk with Bihar home secretary in this regard to control the growing menace of Maoists in both the states.
The director-general of police, who was here today to attend a passing-out parade of 501 jawans of newly-formed India Reserve battalion at Meru camp of Border Security Force (BSF), about 11 km from the district headquarters, said both the states would identify routes that are used by the rebels for inter-state crimes.
Ram said talks would soon begin with the BSF for advanced training to Jharkhand?s senior police officers at the Meru camp, which will enable them to fight the rebels more skilfully.
He also praised the state police officials for enhancing their modus operandi to counter extremism in Jharkhand, especially the recent shift in their strategy to attack the rebels in their hideouts.
?We were taking action against those who have been financially helping the extremists. In Chatra, FIR has been lodged against such persons,? claimed Ram.
About increasing security threats to banks, Ram said a proposal had been forwarded to the Reserve Bank of India for the formation of two more battalions of India Reserve Force.
?The banks were asked to bear the expenses of this battalion. But at present, we have provided adequate security to the banks in the state,? he added.
Additional director-general Neeyaz Ahmed said efforts were being made to make each and every police station in the state equipped with modern gadgets and equipment.
Ahmed stated that all police stations in Jharkhand would get an anti-landmine vehicle along with two bullet-proof vans and officials would be given training on how to fight guerrilla wars.
Policemen undertaking risky operations would also be provided with bullet-proof jackets, helmets and night-vision binoculars, he added.
