Jamshedpur, May 17: Steel city MP Bidyut Baran Mahto, who wrested the coveted Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat from JVM’s Ajoy Kumar yesterday, spent the day meeting well-wishers and party leaders.

Since early this morning, BJP supporters from all the six Assembly segments — Jamshedpur East, Jamshedpur West, Bahragora, Ghatshila, Jugsalai and Potka — started flocking his Q Road residence in Bistupur with bouquets and garlands.

Supporters from different parts of the city also turned up in gleaming SUV’s, one after another, to make their presence felt. Slogans, “Narendra Modi zindabad, Bidyut Mahto zindabad”, rent the air.

Senior party leader Sarayu Roy and presidents of party district units also called on the new MP.

Sporting a smile, clad in a pink half-shirt and black trousers, Bidyut received all with folded hands.

“I could not come on the counting day, so I have come today. I am very happy and sure that Bidyut will not disappoint the people),” said Naren Laguri, a party worker from Bahragora, which Bidyut represented in the Assembly before joining the BJP ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

Later in the day, Bidyut went to senior BJP leader and Jamshedpur East legislator Raghubar Das’s residence to thank him personally. He spent around half-an-hour with Das, before zipping off to nearby Golmuri to meet a friend. He also toured the Bistupur area and met the local residents.

“I am thankful to the people of Jamshedpur constituency for supporting me in the elections. I also thank senior party leaders and cadres for their guidance and support. I will always remain available to the people. I am also planning to open my office at Sakchi so that people can come there with their grievances,” Bidyut said.
