Dhanbad: BIT-Sindri kicked off its two-day admission proc-ess for 725 seats on Monday.

From 10am, students with guardians in tow, began lining up outside the new lecture hall to gain admission in mechanical, metallurgical, electronics & communication, computer science engineering and information & technology departments.

Admissions to the remaining five disciplines - electrical, production, civil, mining and chemical - will be conducted on Tuesday.

Professor-in-charge of academics Jeetu Kujur, who is also supervising the admission process, said, "This year, we have switched from the centralised system of admission to a decentralised format. Ten committees comprising six teachers each from the 10 engineering departments have been constituted to look after the admission process in their respective departments."

BIT Sindri director Dharmendra Kumar Singh said the campus was being spruced up to welcome the new batch.

"All the 25 hostels are being given a fresh coat of colour. They will be ready before the classes begin from August 2," he said. Three new classrooms and a lecture hall have come up and the toilets are being repaired.

Parents were in awe of the campus. Jamshedpur resident Vinod Kumar Tripathi, whose son Praveen is taking admission in mechanical engineering, was impressed with the greenery on the campus.

Advocate Ajay Kumar Sinha, who was accompanying his son Priyanshu, said, "I am satisfied with the campus with huge workshops, modern lecture halls, seminar hall and classrooms equipped with sound system."
