Jamshedpur, June 10: The Xavier?s Labour Relation Institute (XLRI) has set new visions in its march ahead for excellence.

The B-school is likely to complete working on its new ventures by this month.

Sources at the B-school revealed that chalking out the vision is part of a strategy to not only strengthen its core areas but also to use its expertise in a better manner and earmark fresh fields where the institute can contribute.

XLRI director Father Casimir Raj said, ?There are two fields in which we would like to take a plunge. First we would like to set up an entrepreneur development programme. Through this programme we would like to chip in our bit for the nascent state by grooming new entrepreneurs.?

The second, the director said, would be to set up a new programme in corporate governance. ?We already have a good course in business ethics and by setting up a programme in corporate governance we would be giving a further impetus to the course,? he said.

The centre will serve as a nodal agency in the eastern region for the promotion of entrepreneurship and the effective management of small and medium-scale units. It will act as an incubator for small entrepreneurs as well as a business development service centre for existing small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

?The centre will have twin objectives of providing assistance to small and medium enterprises in matters related to training and consultancy to improve quality of life of the employees and the overall effectiveness of the organisation. It will also guide entrepreneurs to set up their own industries,? said the director.

The activities will include research, database, development, training and consultancy on issues relating to SMEs, closely held family businesses, voluntary agencies and government departments working in the area of enterprise development. It will function through effective networking with banks, industry associations, government and non-government agencies.

The centre would also actively involve in providing consultancy services to organisations spanning all sectors. The services of this kind not only strengthen the institute-industry relationship, but also enhance the mutual learning and expertise of academia and practioners in the field of management.

?We are in the process of tying up with the George Mason University in America for the entrepreneur programme,? said Casimir Raj.

The B-school has also appointed former managing director of Tata Motors Sarosh J. Ghandy as the Tata chairperson for business ethics.
