Vidya Bharati Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Telco, will host a four-day CBSE Cluster III Athletics Meet starting from Thursday at Sumant Moolgaokar Stadium in Telco.
A.B. Lall, plant head, Tata Motors, will grace the occasion as the chief guest on the inaugural day. Addressing a news meet at Vidya Bharati Chinmaya Vidyalaya on Monday, Vipin Sharma, principal of the school, said they were ready to host the prestigious event.
The cluster-based sports events organised by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) are carried out across the country in 26 clusters that comprise of various states. Cluster III comprises schools from Bihar and Jharkhand.
"Around 1,300 students (boys and girls) from Bihar and Jharkhand will compete in the meet, which will be held in three categories - Under-14, Under-17 and Under-19. Students from 84 schools will vie for the top honours," said Sharma, also a member of the organising committee.
The competition will be held everyday from 9am to 5pm. There will be 900 outstation students while 400 from steel city will vie for the top post in 66 events that include 100m & 200m relays, high jump, long jump, javelin, shotput and discus throw.
The top performers of the Jamshedpur meet will take part in the CBSE athletic nationals championship. The hosts have made all the arrangements for transport, lodging and boarding of the students and their coaches.
"The winners from various clusters will then participate in the national-level sports meet organised by CBSE. While Vidya Bharati Chinmaya Vidyalaya is hosting the athletic meet in Bihar and Jharkhand, other clusters also host various sporting events too. All CBSE schools are divided into clusters," Sharma added.
