Argora police station in Ranchi, located near important landmarks like cricket icon Mahendra Singh Dhoni's home and BJP state headquarters, both in Harmu, is almost ready with its Rs 60 lakh makeover.
The old two-storey thana building now has a new neighbour inside its 5000sqft complex in the form of another two-storey building. The other new additions are a boundary wall, a drain around it, a large gate and a parking shed.
The new double-storey building primarily has a kitchen, dining space and recreation facilities for 20 policemen deputed at Argora thana.
Bathroom fittings of the old building have also been changed.
Contractor Manoj Kumar Pandey, who bagged this construction and beautification work from Jharkhand Police Housing Corporation, said his men were giving finishing touches to the five-month project and would it over to the corporation in about two days.
"We are just working on the gate now, rest is done," he said. "Though Lower Bazar, Lalpur, Chutia, Jagannathpur and Namkum police stations have been developed as model ones, the look of Argora thana is unique," he added.
Argora OC Ratibhan Singh said once inaugurated, the new-look thana would be an ideal place for police constables and visitors. "Our personnel have to cook food at the barracks. A kitchen and dining room were urgently needed. Recreational facilities would boost our boys' morale," he said but did not name a date for the inauguration.
Argora Police Station gives security to over 2 lakh residents residing in Argora, Ashok Nagar, Kadru and Harmu Housing Colony.
