The Jharkhand Archery Association (JAA), practically headless for months, seems to be treading towards polls as its movers and shakers are serious in putting the medal spinning body on an even keel.

JAA officials have started discussing possible dates for the annual general body meeting (read elections). And if sources are to be believed the AGM is most likely to be convened by June 15.

The polls will elect the new executive body, comprising a president, six vice-presidents, one secretary, five joint secretaries and one treasurer. There are 21 affiliated district outfits, clubs and institutions that will take part in the ensuing elections.

Speaking to The Telegraph, JAA working secretary L. Murty said efforts were on to hold the elections by mid-June. "Things are moving in the right direction. The polls are imminent," he added.

The last elections were held in 2009. And, soon after the polls, elected JAA president Sanjiv Paul, also a former vice-president of Tata Steel, was transferred to Calcutta. As a result, he was unable to devote time to the outfit.

This apart, Arjuna awardee Sanjeeva Singh, who was elected secretary of the JAA in 2009, showed little interest in the affairs of the archery association after he left Tata Steel and moved to Delhi in 2011, rendering the outfit effectively headless.

Though Murty was appointed the working secretary to manage the functioning of the association, he has no power to take executive decisions.
