Jamshedpur, Dec. 21: Belly dancers and fire-eaters made their way into the steel city today to entertain visitors on a winter evening.

From the makeshift tents to the hookah bar, the venue at the Jubilee Nicco Amusement Park captured the essence of the Arabian locales.

Celebrating the “Magic Carpet, Arabian Night” theme at the annual bash of the Rotary Club of Jamshedpur Steel City, 600 invited guests gyrated to the foot-tapping peppy remixes by DJ Ravi.

The highlight of the event was certainly the mesmerising dance movements by Noorah and Yaamala, who set the mood for the crowd to dance to the groovy beats.

The two belly dancers performed in three sessions of half-an-hour each to alternate with the loud remixes playing in the background.

The organisers retained the traditional element in this theme party by bringing in an artiste to adorn the palms of ladies with “mehendi”.

If the visual delights offered by the belly dancers and the fire-eater kept the audience spellbound, the exotic food went down well with the theme of Arabian extravaganza. While Blue Lagoons, Black Current Breezers and Strawberry Coolers kept the audience thirsting for more, the “adash shorba” and the “tomato shorba” were for those who yearned for hot soup to beat the cold.

Specially prepared by experts from Calcutta and Mumbai, the Arabic mezza consisted of humus, tabouli, labne, black olive and falafel with tahina. For those craving a taste of the authentic Mughlai food, there was a platter full of kebabs and biriyani.

“This Arabian concept is an innovation that we thought might provide quality entertainment, moving a step ahead from the regular parties we usually have,” said Udai Dhir, founding chairman of the Rotary Club.
