Hazaribagh: The state government has sanctioned an amount of Rs 2.65 crore for the renovation of three temples in Ichak block of the district, Sadar MLA Manish Jaiswal said on Thursday.
Jaiswal said state tourism minister Amar Bouri conveyed the state government's decision to sanction the funds for the makeover of Bada Akhada, Chota Akhada and Ram Janki temple to him on Wednesday.
The nearly 200-year-old temples are believed to have been built during the reign of the Ramgarh kings who called Ichak, situated some 13km from the district headquarters, their capital. The temples were lying neglected for years.
Jaiswal, who drew the attention of the state government to the plight of the temples, said he wants the temples to be developed in line with the Maluti temples in Dumka because it will generate employment as well.
"Ichak is famous for three Ts-temples, tanks and trees," Jiswal told The Telegraph and added that wrestling, which was popular here, would draw crowds from different parts of the country.
Work is expected to begin by the end of December and complete by February, he said.
