9 in special Olympics camp

Nine probables from the state will be part of the second national preparatory camp to be conducted by Special Olympics Bharat (SOB) at Pilani, Rajasthan, from June 19 to 25.

Jamshedpur: Nine probables from the state will be part of the second national preparatory camp to be conducted by Special Olympics Bharat (SOB) at Pilani, Rajasthan, from June 19 to 25.

While eight probables - Monika Mahto, Rohit Nag (both badminton), Neha Kumari Rajak (powerlifting), Shubham Kumar, Priyanshu Kumar (both cycling), N. Sai Krishna (athletics), Gurucharan Lamey and Vikram Nayak (both unified football) - are from here, Ashique Ansari (unified football) is from Ranchi.

Jamshedpur-based Aakash Mukhi will accompany the team and assist the specials during the camp.

Depending on their performance at the camp, players will be selected for the national team that will represent the country in the 2019 World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi from March 14 to 21.

SOB, a national organisation which works for the promotion of intellectually impaired, selected the players on the basis of their performance in the national championship.

"Our players are in good form and we are hopeful that some of them would find a slot in the national team," said Jharkhand Special Olympics assistant area director Satbir Singh Sahota.

According to him, all the nine attended the first national camp in Bhopal (powerlifting and unified football) and Gurgaon (badminton, cycling and athletics).

SOB Jharkhand unit president Ritu Raj Sinha and area director Bailey Bodhanwala expressed happiness and conveyed their best wishes to the specials.
