Jamshedpur, Aug. 19: It’s once again job bounty for Adityapur NITians, 50 of whom have impressed nine top-notch firms in seven days flat.

The placement season for the 440-strong 2007 batch of B.Tech and MCA students began last week. While Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) creamed off 12 from various engineering streams within the first few days, steel behemoth ArcelorMittal handpicked seven. Automobile major Tata Motors has taken five NITians under its wings.

Other companies that have visited the campus so far include Jamshedpur Utilities and Services Company (Jusco ), a Tata Steel subsidiary, and TRF.

“The placement season looks pleasant this year,” said NIT director Rajnish Srivastava.

“We are expecting at least 50 companies with diverse portfolios to participate in the recruitment drive against last year’s 45. We hope to see all our students placed well,” added Rajiv Bhushan, NIT’s assistant placement co-ordinator.

Till now, the highest offer has been made by IOCL. The PSU has hired engineering students for an annual package of Rs 8.8 lakh, including perks and emoluments. Tata Motors has followed with a Rs 5-lakh offer, excluding benefits. ArcelorMittal has offered an annual package of Rs 4.75 lakh.

In 2009-10, software giant Infosys had alone picked up 52 students followed by TCS, which selected 49. The highest package of Rs 9.46 lakh was offered by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited.

NIT training and placement cell officials revealed that corporate giants like Ashok Leyland, EXL Services, Tata Steel, NTPC, Infosys, India Bulls, Cummins India and TCS would visit the campus soon.

Students are understandably upbeat. “Placements have been good. We hope for a 100 per cent success rate this year,” said a final-year student, handpicked by IOCL.

Notably, the good placement season has also opened avenues for “dream job” offers at the institute for the fourth consecutive year.

Under the scheme, which was launched in 2006, a student is allowed to appear for tests conducted by at least two companies. If he bags both jobs, he can take the best offer.
