Jamshedpur, Aug. 6: East Singhbhum police busted an inter-state vehicle smuggling gang by nabbing four persons from different parts of the city today.

Police have also recovered seven vehicles - six SUVs and one sedan - stolen from the neighbouring Bihar.

According to SSP East Singhbhum Anoop T. Mathew, a group of youths were trying to sell off the stolen vehicles. Acting on a tip-off, the city police formed a team comprising officers from Golmuri, Sidhgora Sitaramdera, Birsanagar and Govindpur thanas along with three DSPs (city DSP Animesh Naithani, traffic DSP Vivekananda Thakur and DSP headquarter-I K.N. Mishra).

"We got the information last evening and launched a vehicle checking drive at major roundabouts. During the drive a police team near Golmuri roundabout noticed a white SUV speeding away even after being asked to stop for checking. Immediately, the team was mobilised. While one chased the vehicle, another stopped the car near the RD Tata roundabout," the SSP said.

Three persons were arrested as the vehicle documents didn't match with the SUV registration number. During interrogation they revealed their identity as Sunil Kumar Singh (Birsanagar), Tinku Das (Baridih Basti) and Vinay Kumar Mishra (Telco). They also divulged that they were going to sell the stolen cars to a client in Adityapur.

The youths further disclosed that they were guided by a team from Bihar.

"Three persons - Shiv Pujan Prasad, Raj Kishore (both from Chapra in Bihar) and Anil Kumar Prasad (Siwan in Bihar) - were the kingpins. They used to provide them with the stolen vehicles. The youths used to prepare fake documents through one Manish Agarwal. Police had also nabbed Agarwal from his shop and seized his computer and several fake ID cards from his shop," Mathew added.
