Ranchi, Aug. 10: The governor’s advisory council today approved construction of a number of check dams in Ranchi and Dumka districts.
The check dams, to be built under accelerated irrigation benefit project, will extend irrigation facilities to 12,123 hectares in the two districts.
Principal secretary of cabinet co-ordination department Aditya Swaroop said more than 105 check dams would be built across drought-hit Ranchi and Dumka, which does not figure on the parched list but has received less rainfall this monsoon. He added that the proposed check dams would have microlift irrigation system.
The advisory council also agreed to allow the drinking water and sanitation department to surrender Rs 28 crore under different heads. The department, in turn, will be given equivalent sums from the contingency funds to improve drinking water facilities in certain areas of Giridih, Dumka, Koderma, Jamtara and Chatra districts.
It was also decided to give a Class IV job to Lalku Mahto’s widow Karmi Devi. A resident of Keredari in Hazaribagh, Mahto was killed accidentally during an encounter between police and Naxalites in 2007.

Applications of All India Services officials going on official training or personal leave for less than a month will be dispensed with at the chief secretary’s level
The drug and food testing laboratory in Namkum has been allowed to appoint 23 officials to start functioning
Director-general of Shrikrishna Institute of Public Administration will now also have administrative control over State Institute of Rural Development, Central Training Institute, Panchayati Raj Training Centre and other institutions run by the state
Rs 6.18 lakh has been sanctioned to State Institute of Rural Development for training
Over a dozen villages of Satbarwa block in Palamau have now been attached to Medininagar (Daltonganj) sadar police station
These villages will be controlled by Satbarwa outpost. Earlier these villages were under Manika police station in Latehar district.
The Albert Ekka (Jari) block Gumla district will now have a separate police station. It will have five panchayats under its jurisdiction. Setting up of Siyaljori police station under Chandankiyari block of Bokaro district too has been approved. It would cover six panchayats. Earlier, Siyaljori came under Bangaria OP of Chandankiyari PS. Now this OP will come under Siyaljori PS.
Other decisions by the advisory council include transfer of lands to NTPC and Indian Rail for their ongoing projects in the state. These lands would be handed over on payment. As per High Court's direction retired settlement officer Bhola Prasad Singh would be given his due amounts accumulated during the service period.
