Ranchi, Jan. 22: The Cup of every cricket fans' dreams came calling at a Ranchi school to acknowledge its contribution to Indian cricket - skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Television channel Star Sports, which will air the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, brought the 2011 Cup from the BCCI to Dhoni's alma mater, Jawahar Vidya Mandir (JVM), Shyamali for a good 75 minutes on Thursday.

There was reverential wonder on every student's face when games teacher Keshav Banerjee unveiled the 60 centimetre-trophy with three silver columns holding the iconic golden globe on JVM's playground.

Banerjee, who inspired then-soccer enthusiast and Class VI schoolboy Dhoni to take up cricket, was all smiles.

This was the Cup that Dhoni, leading Team India against the Lankans, had won on April 2, 2011, at Mumbai's iconic Wankhede Stadium, becoming the second Indian captain after Kapil Dev in 1983 to earn the honour in a country where cricket is religion.

Dhoni, who recently retired from Test cricket, will lead India to the 2015 World Cup, to be played by 14 teams in Australia and New Zealand from February 14 to March 29.

'Wish Mahi wins the Cup again for India this year,' seventh grader Kishlay Kumar said.

Retaining the World Cup is something all Indians are wishing for. But, Dhoni's alma mater wants it possibly more fervently. For, this may well be Dhoni's last World Cup.

Students proved clued-in about the Cup, with columns shaped like stumps and bails and the globe like a ball that symbolise batting, bowling and fielding.

'The ICC keeps the original in its Dubai office and gives a replica to the winner,' a student was overheard telling his friend. 'I Googled and found out it weighs 11 kilos,' the friend replied.

Garrard and Company of London, also Crown jewellers, crafted the trophy in 1999. Every four years, a replica is given to the winner, for instance to India in 2011. Before 1999, each Cup was different.

'Nice that they (Star Sports) got the trophy to Dhoni's alma mater. Let students get motivated,' principal A.K. Singh said. 'I dream of Dhoni lifting the 2015 Cup but also of finding another student as talented as him.'

'I dream of discovering a little Dhoni, too,' Games teacher Banerjee said. 'I am nurturing this dream since two decades.'

According to Star Sports, official broadcaster for the tournament, they were taking the World Cup to various places to bring fans closer to the sport and its heroes.

In Ranchi, the ICC trophy was also taken to St Xavier's College, Doranda College, Spring City Mall at Hinoo and Birsa Chowk.
