Top Maoist operative dead

• NEW DELHI: Top Maoist commander Arvind is reported to have died of a heart attack on Wednesday, sources in the security establishment said. Official sources said the horse-riding Arvindji alias Dev Kumar Singh was in his 50s and died early on Thursday in the jungles of Budha Pahad bordering Chhattisgarh. The A-category, most-wanted Maoist, was a member of the central committee of the banned CPI (Maoist) and carried a reward of Rs 1.5 crore on his head, as declared by the police forces of Jharkhand and Bihar. Saarc LTA nix

• NEW DELHI: The central government has shelved a proposal to allow leave travel concession to its employees to visit Saarc countries, the Lok Sabha was informed on Wednesday. PTI

Helmetless actor

• MUMBAI: Mumbai police have issued an e-challan to actor Kunal Kemmu for violating traffic norms by riding a motorcycle without a helmet. The actor apologised and said he does not want to set a wrong example. The e-challan was issued based on pictures of the actor riding the two-wheeler wearing only a cap and not a helmet. PTI

SC 'dress code' rap

• NEW DELHI : The Supreme Court on Wednesday pulled up a senior bureaucrat of the Rajasthan government for failing to adhere to "proper dress code". The court directed additional chief secretary of urban development and housing department of Rajasthan, Manjit Singh, to check the rules of the dress code worn by bureaucrats. He was dressed in formal shirt and trousers. The court also asked the additional solicitor general to apprise the court about the rules on Thursday. PTI

Train fare

• NEW DELHI: The government on Wednesday said in Parliament that a committee set up to review the flexi-fare scheme in premium trains has submitted its report and is being examined. PTI

UP rape

• BANDA (UP): A 17-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly raped by a youth at a village here, police said on Wednesday. The victim was carrying out her ablutions on Tuesday when one Kuldeep allegedly raped her, the police said. PTI
