Kanwariyas bound for Deoghar (above) hitch a trekker ride in the rain in Bokaro on Sunday, while a girl in Sakchi gears up for a wet day in Jamshedpur. Monsoon is suddenly in a magnanimous mood in Jharkhand. Several parts of the state soaked in showers since Saturday evening, keeping the deficit demon on leash. Weathermen attributed the bounty to reinstatement of the monsoon axis, which is passing through Ganganagar, Churu, Allahabad, Ranchi and Balasore and is stretched till the east central Bay of Bengal. “Good rainfall activity will continue in Jharkhand this week,” said B.N. Chaudhary, a senior meteorologist in Patna. “The axis passed through Ranchi today (Sunday). This resulted in rain,” he added. Like Saturday, the showers kept the deficit at 29 per cent. Statistics showed that against an actual of 462.3mm, the state has received 657.9mm so far. Hazaribagh, Pakur and Dumka soaked in over 20mm in 24 hours. Ghatshila, Baharagora and Chaibasa experienced 15mm, while Ranchi and Jamshedpur recorded around 5mm. Gumla (5 per cent) and East Singhbhum (2 per cent) are the only two districts on the surplus list. Koderma tops the loss chart (58 per cent). In its 24-hour forecast, the Patna Met office has predicted moderate rain in several districts.
