New Delhi, May 22 (PTI): Delhi High Court today ordered the initiation of perjury prosecution against actor Shayan Munshi for his “prima facie” attempt to “help the accused” in the Jessica Lal murder case.

The court noted that Munshi had first identified Manu Sharma as the man who had fired at Jessica but later done an about-turn saying Sharma did not demand liquor from the slain model.

Munshi had also said during the trial that the man who had shot at Jessica was “much taller” than Sharma.

“He (Munshi) admitted to witnessing the entire episode and yet declined to identify the real offender. The witness had no explanation for this volte face. He did not qualify his witnessing the incident by saying that the given time for observing the man was inadequate or anything of that sort,” the bench said.

It also said that Munshi’s claim about two people firing in the air during the crime “prima facie” indicated that he had tried to suppress facts.
