Patna, July 14 :    Patna, July 14:  The mysterious deaths of Shilpi Jain and Gautam Singh here on July 3 has triggered a bout of political skulduggery on the eve of the polls. Outrage over the incident, suspected to be a murder case, led to a CBI probe being announced by the Bihar government yesterday. The BJP has accused a section of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders, especially chief minister Rabri Devi?s brother Sadhu Yadav, of being involved in the ?rape of the girl before murdering her and Gautam?. Sources said the rivalry between Sadhu Yadav and his brother has turned even more bitter now that the case has taken a complex turn. Much of the grist for the Opposition?s campaign against Sadhu Yadav is being provided by those close to Subhas Yadav. Speculation is rife that RJD chief Laloo Prasad Yadav also wants Sadhu Yadav to be reined in. The former chief minister was embarrassed by his brother-in-law?s alleged role in the violence which marred the party?s organisational polls last month. The decision to order a CBI probe into the Shilpi-Gautam case was prompted by the need to save the RJD from being singed by public wrath. However, the controversy over Sadhu Yadav?s alleged attempts to suppress the truth continues to rage. Traders of the city have called a bandh here tomorrow in protest against the trail of inconsistencies in the police investigation into the case. The police are also accused of closing the case at the behest of Sadhu Yadav. Immediately after the bodies of Shilpi and Gautam were spotted in a Maruti Zen on July 3, police officials took recourse to the suicide theory. Five days later, the police said the deaths were caused by asphyxiation triggered by accumulation of carbon monoxide in the car. It is learnt that a police inspector whom Subhas Yadav?s aides knew was asked to divulge the sequence of events leading to the incident. He alleged that Shilpi was picked up and raped by Sadhu Yadav?s men while she was on her way to a computer institute. The inspector said Shilpi?s boyfriend Gautam subsequently arrived at the spot where the incident took place and was planning to go to the police when the alleged rapists killed him and Shilpi.
