Mumbai, Oct. 7 (PTI): The wife of Mumbai Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam has written an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking safety for her family, which has been facing threats and troll attacks after her husband termed the army's surgical strikes "fake".

Geeta Nirupam's letter came on a day Sanjay claimed receiving a "threat call" from alleged gangster Ravi Pujari.

She said she was being abused openly in "most vulgar and demeaning manner possible not only on social media but even via phone calls". She asked Modi to "check the vulgar comments of the random social media activists and keep politics aside from the personal and familial life".

"I am sadly disappointed and waiting for you to press the stop button and at least make sure that there is some censorship that monitors language on mass media. Politics is not a family game; so can we stop dragging families into it?" she wrote.
