Mumbai, Nov. 20: Pramod Navalkar, the Shiv Sena minister known for his campaign against obscenity and western influences, died this evening. He was 72.

Navalkar, ailing for the past few years, suffered a heart attack at his home in a Girgaum chawl (tenement). He is survived by his wife and two daughters. His funeral will be held tomorrow.

Navalkar was referred to as “culture cop” because of his hardline views. BJP leader Gopinath Munde condoled his death, saying he was a crusader against social evils.
