MLA arrest
• Hyderabad, July 13 (PTI): Telangana police today arrested a legislator of the ruling TRS for his alleged misbehaviour with a woman collector of Mahabubabad district in Telangana.
The MLA from Mahabubabad, B. Shankar Nayak, allegedly behaved in a rude manner with the collector at a public meeting organised during a massive plantation drive programme yesterday. The MLA has denied any wrongdoing on his part. He was later released on bail.
Citizenship
• New York (PTI): A 37-year-old man from India is set to lose his American citizenship after he was convicted of fraud and not disclosing to immigration authorities that he had sexually abused a 9-year-old child.
Aid petition
• New Delhi (PTI): A Delhi court has said a husband is liable to maintain his estranged wife and cannot be allowed to run away from his responsibility while directing a man to pay maintenance to his wife in a domestic violence case.
Bigg Boss row
• Chennai (PTI): Actor Kamal Haasan is unfazed by an outfit's police complaint seeking a ban on him and his reality show Bigg Boss, saying he is confident the judiciary will take care of the matter. Hindu Makkal Katchi had sought legal action against Haasan and the actors on the show alleging that it denigrated Tamilian culture.
Women leave
• Mumbai (PTI): Senior Shiv Sena corporator Sheetal Mhatre has demanded that women working in government and private organisations be allowed to avail "menstrual leave" once in a month. Mhatre said the initiative, if passed, will make workplace more women-friendly.
Nurses strike
• Thiruvananthapuram (PTI): Around 80,000 nurses in Kerala have decided to go on an indefinite strike from July 17 demanding higher wages. The private hospital managements said they would be able to provide only emergency services from Monday in view of the protest call.
