Curry scare

London, Oct.9 (PTI): A curry dish cooked with variants of the Indian Naga Jolokia chilli — considered the hottest chilli in the world — landed two women in hospital in Edinburgh after they fainted.

The annual competition to consume the “Kismot Curry” dish is organised to raise money for charity. Participants sign a legal disclaimer before taking part in the event.

Computer chip

Washington (PTI): Indian-American Raj Dutt, an IIT-Kharagpur alumnus, has developed an energy-efficient computer chip that has caught the attention of the Pentagon, which is testing its application in the ambitious F-35 Joint Strike Fighters. The technology helps processors consume up to 90 per cent less energy.

Army gesture

New Delhi (PTI): The army has set up its first palliative care centre here for veterans who fought wars for the country but are terminally ill now. The facility will also treat the families of the retired soldiers.

Painting theft

New Delhi (PTI): Two paintings by Russian artist Nicholas Roerich that were stolen from the Indian Agriculture Research Institute and allegedly auctioned in London for $2 million have prompted the CBI to alert the Interpol. The CBI registered a case in this regard last month and questioned staff of the institute

Train deaths

Chapra (PTI): Five teenaged boys were on Sunday crushed to death by the Howrah-Kathgodam Bagh Express near Goldenganj under Bihar’s Sonepur-Chapra section of the East-Central Railway, a GRP officer said. The boys were trying to cross over to the other side of the track.

‘Killer’ father

Vadodara (PTI): A 22-year-old man has been arrested in Gujarat’s Matar for allegedly killing his four-month-old son. On October 2, Baldev Baraiya had a quarrel with his wife after which he strangulated the sleeping child and threw the body into a nearby canal.
