Chandigarh, June 2 : The family of Ruchika Girhotra, who allegedly committed suicide after being molested by former Haryana DGP S.P.S Rathore, has said they won’t object to the CBI’s reports that dropped torture charges against the officer.
The reports say there’s no evidence to prove Ruchika’s brother Ashu was tortured in police custody and that the signatures of her father S.C. Girhotra on the victim’s post-mortem report had been forged.
New Delhi (PTI): A Delhi court has dismissed Congress leader Sajjan Kumar’s plea to use in his defence a 1984 anti-Sikh riot victim’s statements to judicial commissions, allegedly contradicting her testimony to a trial court.
Beed: Police have recovered two aborted female foetuses, including that of a nearly nine months old, in Maharashtra’s Beed, which has one of the lowest sex ratios in the state.
The foetuses were found in a plastic bag covered with a blood-stained sari near a dry river basin.
Beed district collector Sadanand Koche has set up five teams to conduct searches at all maternity homes, hospitals and private clinics in the district.
The development comes a couple of weeks after the death of a mother of four girls while undergoing an abortion. The 2011 census showed that Beed had one of the lowest sex ratios at 801 females per 1,000 in the age group of 0-6 years.
Kollam (PTI): A Kerala court has posted to June 18 the trial of the two Italian Marines charged with the murder of two Indian fishermen in February. The court directed the state government to provide a list of interpreters before the next sitting to translate proceedings into Italian.
Ramanathapuram (PTI): A 48-year-old man seeking an additional Rs 10 lakh as dowry 25 years after marriage allegedly threatened his wife saying he would upload on the Net their intimate videos. The man has been arrested and remanded in police custody
