Srinagar, Aug. 1: The month-long pro-Amarnath agitation today reportedly claimed two lives at Jammu’s Samba district.
Although police sources have confirmed the deaths of Sunil Singh and Jugal Kishore, Samba deputy commissioner of police Sauraw Bhagat denied it. Anan Sharma, president of the Kranti Dal, said the two died in police firing when protesters attacked Bhagat’s residence. Earlier in the day, governor N.N. Vohra proposed to reconstitute the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, which will oversee the yatra again.

Rajkot (PTI): A school principal allegedly beat up a 13-year-old boy with a baseball bat on Thursday because the boy had failed to complete his homework. He has been admitted to hospital.
Melbourne (PTI): An Indian taxi driver in Australia was attacked by a knife-wielding man who robbed the 27-year-old of a small amount of cash, police said. A series of attacks on South Asian taxi drivers have been reported, police said.
