New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi has finally revealed the secret of his Twitter turnaround: Pidi, his pet dog.

"Ppl been asking who tweets for this guy.. I'm coming clean.. it's me.. Pidi.. I'm way cooler than him. Look what I can do with a tweet.. oops.. treat!" read a tweet from the Congress vice-president's account on Sunday.

The tweet was accompanied by a video of the dog tossing up a treat Rahul places on his nose and catching it with his mouth at the snap of his master's fingers. Pidi also obliges when told to do a "Namaste".

In no time, #Pidi was trending on Twitter and an unofficial page had been created in the dog's name.

"How long will it be before #Pidi has his own verified twitter account?" National Conference leader Omar Abdullah tweeted.

Another tweeter said: "Am I the only one who is looking forward to another #Pidivideo? Please RT if you'd like one too."

Trolls had a field day too, taking potshots at Rahul and various Congress leaders. Others tore into journalists seen as Modi-friendly.

One also had advice for the BJP: "That moment when #Pidi trends more than #ModInKarnataka @BJP4India shd seriously think of Changing its IT cell manager."

That Rahul's sudden surge on Twitter over the last few months was bothering the BJP had become clear last week when it fielded Union ministers to allege that fake accounts based outside India were behind the jump in retweets.

Divya Spandana, who heads the Congress's social media wing and is widely credited for Rahul's Twitter turnaround, retweeted the Pidi video with the post: "So now you know! Who can match this talent?"
