Bangalore: Saturday's Karnataka Assembly elections witnessed a 72.13 per cent voter turnout, the highest in the state since 1952, chief electoral officer Sanjeev Kumar said on Sunday.
Women and young voters had taken part in large numbers, he added.
"The turnout broke all records last night. By midnight, the figures showed that it was 72.13 per cent," Kumar said.
He added that the 2013 Assembly polls had recorded a 71.45 per cent turnout, and the previous five Assembly elections clocked between 65 and 69 per cent polling.
Kumar said the seizures in the run-up to the polls were worth Rs 94 crore in cash, Rs 24.78 crore in liquor and Rs 66 crore in other items such as clothes, vehicles and electronic gadgets.
He said re-polling would take place in a polling station at Lottegollahalli in Hebbal, since an electronic voting machine had developed a glitch there on Saturday.
The election to the Jayanagara seat in Bangalore was countermanded following the death of the sitting MLA and BJP candidate, B.N. Vijaykumar, on May 4.
The election to the Rajarajeshwari Nagar seat has been deferred to May 28 after the seizure of fake voter cards from an apartment.
