A new bench will take up on Wednesday the separate criminal and civil defamation proceedings launched by Jay Amit Shah, son of BJP president Amit Shah, against The Wire news portal.
The Wire had reported that the turnover of a company owned by Jay Shah had grown exponentially within a year after Narendra Modi became Prime Minister.
Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, who had earlier heard the matter with Justices A.M. Khanwilkar and D.Y. Chandrachud, on Thursday referred the matter for further hearing before “an appropriate bench”.
Justice Misra is slated to demit office on October 2. Judgments in several key cases, including those dealing with the Aadhaar card validity and the Sabarimala temple, are now being written by the Chief Justice.
