Calcutta, Oct. 9 :
Breaking decibel limits during the Pujas will be tougher this year, with the state pollution control board and the city police beefing up monitoring arrangements.
For the first time in three years since the board began cracking down on loudspeakers and noisy fireworks, telephone hotlines will be used for instant communication between the enforcing agencies. The board will be connected to the police headquarters at Lalbazar and the state police directorate at Writers? Buildings via hotlines.
In addition, pollution control board sources said on Saturday that the police were being given 50 sound monitors. The city and the state police will share the equipment and measure noise levels around the pandals. A board official said a detailed plan of action would be chalked out next week.
