New Delhi, Jan. 19: The Supreme Court today issued notices to Delhi University lecturer S.A.R. Geelani and Afsan Guru, alias Navjot Sandhu, on a petition by Delhi police that challenged the high court’s order clearing them of all charges in the Parliament attack case, reports our legal correspondent.

Justices S.. Variava and H.K. Sema also issued a notice to police on a petition by the condemned prisoner in the case, Shaukat Hussain Guru, who challenged Delhi High Court’s upholding of the death sentence given to him by the trial court.

The division bench stayed the execution of Shaukat as well as that of Mohammad Afzal against whom the high court had upheld the death penalty while summoning records relating to the case from both the trial court and high court. It said hearing would start from February 20 on the appeals. The court has directed Geelani and Afsan not to leave the country without permission.
