Calcutta, March 6 :     CESC Ltd today synchronised the second unit of its 500 MW thermal power plant in Budge Budge. The first unit was synchronised in September 1997. With this, the city-based utility's total power generation capacity will go up to 1,065 MW, CESC executive director (generation and distribution) K.A. Siddiqi said. He added that the unit is expected to attain 150 MW by next month and full load by July. 'The unit will help CESC reduce dependence on imported power from DVC and WBSEB and will ensure a stable supply within its licensed area spread over 567 sq km,' he said. The cost of the Budge Budge project has been pegged at around Rs 2,500 crore. Freedom fighter dead Freedom fighter S.B. Dutt died in the city recently. He was 92. Dutt was founder-member of Jadavpur University and the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers. Dutt, who founded Kiran Lamps, was also president of the Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industries.
