Srinagar, Nov. 2: The BSF today released a video to prove it had damaged Pakistani military posts across the border in Jammu, a claim officials from the neighbouring country deny.
The video shows the BSF pulverising Pakistani posts but it is not clear if the Pakistan Rangers had suffered casualties.
The BSF has been claiming that it has killed 15 Pakistan Rangers since the September 29 surgical strikes. In another claim, the BSF said it damaged 14 Pakistani posts yesterday.
Ceasefire violations on the Line of Control and the International Border have increased in recent weeks, with civilians on both sides paying with their lives.
Twenty people, including 12 civilians, have died in Pakistani shelling since the strikes. The state suffered the highest single-day toll in Pakistani shelling yesterday when eight civilians were killed in the Samba and the Rajouri districts of Jammu.
Pakistan claims to have lost 17 civilians to Indian shelling in recent weeks.
The BSF inspector-general of police, D.K. Upadhyay, claimed the Pakistanis deliberately targeted civilian areas but his force never did. "We fire only towards military bunkers from where Pakistani forces fire. We have inflicted heavy damage on 14 Pakistani bunkers," the BSF IGP told reporters in Jammu.
He said if Pakistani civilians had lost their lives, it was because they lived very close to the military bunkers.
"Pakistani forces are firing heavy mortars deliberately towards Indian civilian areas. The BSF never fires towards any Pakistani civilian area," he said.
