7 drown in lake

Nagpur, March 23 (PTI): Seven youths, including two brothers, drowned in a lake while they were on a picnic yesterday.

A group of 10 had gone for a picnic near Mangrul lake in Kuhi taluka, about 20km from Nagpur. Seven of them got on a boat. As they were taking pictures, the boat tilted and they fell into the water. Rescue operations were affected by poor lighting in the area and the bodies were fished out this morning.

Ticket price

New Delhi (PTI): The railways have hiked the price of platform tickets from Rs 5 to Rs 10 and the new rate will come into effect from April 1. All zonal authorities have been directed to print the revised tickets on top priority and ensure supply to all stations well in time.

Crash claim

New Delhi (PTI): A Delhi motor tribunal has awarded a compensation of Rs 12 lakh to the family of a man who was mowed down by a speeding vehicle in 2011. The tribunal directed the insurer of the vehicle to pay the amount to the family of Kunwar Sain.

Shashi award

New Delhi (PTI): Shashi Kapoor, best known for films like Namak Halaal, Deewar and Kabhie Kabhie, has been chosen for the Dada Saheb Phalke award. The 77-year-old, who is wheelchair bound and has been ailing from kidney problems, is the third from his family to get the award, after father Prithvi Raj Kapoor and elder brother Raj Kapoor.

Cong MLA

Ahmedabad (PTI): The Congress has issued a show cause notice to a Gujarat MLA who praised chief minister Anandiben Patel by issuing advertisements in newspapers. Gyasuddin Sheikh, representing Dariapur constituency, praised Patel for a scheme under which poor patients will receive financial assistance.

AP capital

Hyderabad: Andhra chief minister Chandrababu Naidu has announced that the new state capital will be named Amaravati. Located on the banks of the river Krishna, the temple town was the capital of many Andhra dynasties until the Mughal conquest.
