Hyderabad, March 25: Telangana supporters today targeted offices of Telugu Desam and Congress leaders in Warangal during the funeral procession of a student who immolated himself yesterday for the statehood cause.

Twenty-one-year-old Lunavath Bhojya Naik, a second-year MBA student of Kakatiya University, set himself ablaze shouting “Jai Telangana” in front of the varsity’s arts college yesterday afternoon. He succumbed to burns a few hours later.

His father, Nama Naik said his son had been confident of getting a good job once Telangana state was formed.

The immolation — the seventh suicide for Telangana —happened after six months of lull in the statehood agitation.

Today, Naik’s body was draped in a Telangana flag and taken to the Telangana Martyrs’ Memorial in Warangal.

Supporters marching with Naik’s body attacked the houses of Desam leader E. Dayakar Rao and information technology minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah. They also attacked a hotel of Desam MP G. Sudha Rani and the house of Congress chief whip G. Venkatarama Reddy.

Telangana Rashtra Samiti chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao, state BJP president G. Kishan Reddy and Telangana joint action committee chairperson K. Kodandaram Reddy were in the procession today. “This should be the last suicide for Telangana. I will go to Delhi tomorrow and stall proceedings in Parliament,” Rao said.

In his dying declaration, Naik had said he set himself on fire because of the delay in the formation of the Telangana state. He blamed the Congress and the Desam for the delay.

“Congress and TDP leaders Telangana ni apahasya chestunaaru (the TDP and Congress leaders are making fun of Telangana cause),” Naik wrote.
