Srinagar: Militants have killed a constable guarding a revered Sufi shrine at Charar-e-Sharief, where security has been reinforced since 1995 when it was taken over by rebels.

Another policeman died in a separate attack on the residence of a moderate Hurriyat leader on Sunday.

The first attack took place outside Shekih Noor-ud-din Wali at Charar-e-Sharief in central Kashmir's Budgam.

Selection grade constable Kultar Singh of 13th battalion of Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police was killed. The militants snatched his rifle before escaping.

A long security operation in 1995 had freed the shrine from the militants.

Another group fired at a policeman guarding the house of Hurriyat leader Fazal Haq Qureshi in Srinagar's Soura. Constable Farooq Ahmad was killed in the attack. Qureshi was himself shot at and paralysed in 2009.
