A winter wedding lookbook by The Telegraph

Celebrating minimal charm and marrying the traditional with the modern

Our model for the day, Satarupa Pyne, channelled fresh-vintage vibes in an Anushree Reddy cobalt blue lehnga embellished with zardozi embroidery and hand-embroidered scallop detailing all over the lehnga edges. Our stylist for the day, Ankita Banerjee, picked this one for the Sangeet. “The colour is different and bright, easy to pull off in any given skin tone. Diamonds are definitely a girl’s best friend so I paired it with the lehnga and also with a dash of pearls to add sophistication,” said Ankita. Our make-up pro for the day, Abhijit Chanda, gave Satarupa dark brown smokey eyes, open hair, soft curls and a pale mouth. Elahe’s vintage-look interiors added to the modern romance.

Style it right with Ankita Banerjee

1. The bride should look the way she always dreamt to look on her special day, no distractions for sure.

2. It is not necessary to follow trends blindly, know your body type and skin tone and be confident with your choice.

3. Learn the perfect technique of layering; two dupattas draped with nice layered jewellery always looks better.

4. Experiment with blouses, even full-sleeve blouses look great, specially to equip you for the cold winter nights.

5. Above all, your smile does the job!

Elahe’s backdrop complements the minimal luminescence of this emerald green handwoven brocade sari paired with a red classic high neck blouse, both by Raw Mango. “The contrasting red blouse with a dark green golden embroidered sari from Raw Mango is the perfect reception look to enhance the after-glow of any bride,” said Ankita, who styled it with a long mala and dainty earrings. The centre-parted hair complements the small red bindi. Abhijit gave her soft brown eyes and subtle lips.

For the D-Day look, we opted for a “lehnga set in royal hues with a striking tinge of gold embroidery all over the lehnga and blouse” by Jayanti Reddy. “A different bridal colour, deep-neck blouses are in for that touch of modern to the silhouette. Layered jewellery with a nice mathapatti gives enough glamour the bride needs for her special day,” said Ankita. The drama on the eyes were enhanced with generous doses of kohl and to offset that, Abhijit opted for a pale mouth.

This Amit Aggarwal pre-draped sari has a chic sleekness about it. It comes with a “hand-embroidered lace blouse inspired by the beautiful form of an amoeba”. The sunshine yellow is just right for a Haldi or the Mehndi ceremony, felt Ankita. “Go for minimal jewellery on the neck and clean hair for a mess-free Haldi or Mehndi,” she said. Abhijit kept the skin dewy. A peach corrector was used for that flawless feel and the brows were well-groomed. There was a bit of pink and brown on the eyes followed by lots of mascara and pink lips.
