Delhi High Court granted interim stay on the trial court's order giving bail to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the money laundering case linked to the alleged excise scam. "Till the pronouncement of this order, the operation of the impugned order shall remain stayed," a vacation bench of Justice Sudhir Kumar Jain said.

Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee joined the ranks of Opposition leaders who have opposed the three new criminal laws that are to come into effect on July 1.  Parliament passed the three new laws – one of the big projects of the new government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi – during the monsoon session in August last year.

Supreme Court refused to defer the counselling for the controversy-ridden NEET-UG 2024 examination scheduled to kick off on July 6, saying it is not an "open and shut" process. A vacation bench of Justices Vikram Nath and SVN Bhatti posted the matter for hearing on July 8 along with other pending pleas alleging irregularities in conduct of the examination.

The prolonged heatwave sweeping large parts of the country has claimed more lives, with 143 recorded deaths and 41,789 people suffering from suspected heatstroke between March 1 and June 20 this year, Health ministry sources said. Several health facilities are also yet to upload data on number of heatwave casualties.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan skipped the Delhi University's Yoga Day event where some students held a protest against alleged irregularities in NEET-UG and UGC-NET exams. The AISA unit of the Delhi University claimed that the minister did not attend the event at the North Campus because of the protest.

Slamming the Tamil Nadu government for the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy, in which 47 persons died, the Madras High Court directed it to file a detailed report on the steps taken to curb the sale of illicit arrack in the state. The PIL sought a direction to the state government to transfer to CBI, the investigation into the crime/offence, sale of illicit arrack by accused persons in Kallakurichi district.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has issued summons to ruling Trinamul Congress MLA Tapas Saha to appear before it in connection with alleged irregularities in recruitment in different state government departments, an official said. The CBI issued summons to Saha, the Tehatatta MLA in connection with alleged recruitment scam, he added.

India was critical of the Canadian parliament observing "one minute silence" in the memory of Khalistan extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was gunned down in Surrey, British Columbia, in June last year. In an unusual move, the Canadian parliament observed "one minute silence" two days ago in memory of Nijjar.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left for New Delhi on a two-day state visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the first such bilateral visit by any head of government after the BJP-led NDA alliance formed a government for the third consecutive time. During the visit, both the premiers will hold a one-to-one meeting followed by delegation-level talks, and Dhaka and New Delhi will sign several agreements and MoUs to strengthen the existing bilateral ties further, it said.

Pakistan's disastrous T20 World Cup campaign in the USA has expectedly triggered a backlash against the players, who are being criticised for taking their families along, even as their beleaguered cricket board mulled invoking a new defamation law to tackle "unsubstantiated claims and reports". These included their wives, children, parents and even siblings in some cases. Pakistan were eliminated after losing to India and debutants USA in their group league stage matches held in New York.
