The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday conducted searches in multiple cities of Bihar and other locations, including premises of former chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav's three daughters and RJD leaders, in connection with a money laundering investigation into the land for jobs 'scam' case.

About two dozen locations are being searched along with an escort of central security forces. A house linked to Prasad's son and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav located in south Delhi is also being covered, they said.

India has recorded its first two deaths due to the Influenza A subtype H3N2, one each from Karnataka and Haryana, official sources said on Friday.

Ninety cases of H3N2 have been reported over the last three months, they said. In Karnataka, 82-year-old Hire Gowda died due to the H3N2 virus on March 1, a state health department official said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday raised with his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese the issue of recent attacks on temples in Australia even as the two leaders focused on concluding an ambitious trade pact by this year and bolster security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific during their first summit talks.

The two sides inked four agreements providing for cooperation in areas of sports, innovation, audio-visual production and solar power following the talks between Modi and Albanese.

The Enforcement Directorate Friday produced former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, under arrest in a money laundering case related to the city government's excise policy, before a special court and sought his custody for 10 days.

There was heavy security within and outside the Rouse Avenue Courts where Sisodia was produced amid protests by his Aam Aadmi Party and the rival BJP.

Demanding immediate holding of students union elections in colleges and universities in the state, around 300 activists of SFI, the student wing of the CPI(M), on Friday took part in a rally from Calcutta University campus on College Street to West Bengal Assembly building.

Students Federation of India (SFI) state committee member Subhajit Sarkar said the SFI members also gathered at Sealdah station to join the main rally near Bowbazar crossing.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur on Friday accused The New York Times of "spreading lies" about India, describing an opinion piece published in it on the freedom of press in Kashmir as "mischievous and fictitious".

"New York Times had long back dropped all pretensions of neutrality while publishing anything about India. NYT's so-called opinion piece on freedom of press in Kashmir is mischievous and fictitious, published with a sole motive to spread a propaganda about India and its democratic institutions and values," Thakur said on Twitter.

Eight people were killed in a shooting at a Jehovah's Witness place of worship in the German city of Hamburg and the gunman was among the dead, police said on Friday. 

Police received a call soon after 9 p.m. (2000 GMT) on Thursday and officers arrived at the scene to find several people seriously injured and some dead.

Rajasthan police early Friday removed the widows of the three CRPF jawans killed in the 2019 Pulwama terror attack from the protest site outside Congress leader Sachin Pilot's house here and shifted them to hospitals near their respective residential areas.

Jaipur Commissioner Anand Srivastava said their supporters were taken to SEZ police station.

China's Parliament on Friday unanimously endorsed an unprecedented third five-year term for President Xi Jinping, paving the way for him to stay in power for life.

Xi, 69, was re-elected by the once-in-a-five-year Congress of the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC) as its leader in October last year, becoming the first Chinese leader after the party founder Mao Zedong to continue in power beyond the two five-year terms.

Members of the Tibetan Youth Congress protested near the Chinese embassy here on the 64th Tibetan National Uprising Day on Friday, police said.Raising slogans against the Chinese government's "hardline policies" and "illegal occupation of Tibet", several of them were detained and taken to Mandir Marg police station as they tried to march towards the embassy.
