Gujarat High Court came down heavily on the Rajkot civic body over the game zone fire which left 27 persons dead, and said it does not have faith in the state machinery which gets into action only after innocent lives are lost. The court also observed that all the Rajkot municipal commissioners, from the time the TRP game zone was set up in 2021 till the time of this incident (on May 25) "should be held accountable for the tragedy that occurred," and directed them to furnish separate affidavits.

Strong gales and heavy rain brought by cyclone Remal lashed the coastlines of India and Bangladesh, with the storm killing at least 16 people and cutting electricity supply to millions before losing intensity. Rains brought by the storm flooded many streets in Calcutta, television images showed, with reports of wall collapses and at least 52 fallen trees.

Ahead of his scheduled return to jail on June 2, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has moved the Supreme Court seeking extension of his interim bail by seven more days on grounds that he has to undergo some medical tests, including a PET-CT scan. It had directed that Kejriwal shall surrender on June 2, a day after the last phase of the seven-phase poll gets over.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi claimed that the INDIA bloc, if voted to power, would scrap the Agnipath scheme of recruitment in defence services and deposit Rs 8,500 to every woman’s account in each month. The scheme, announced by the Narendra Modi government in 2022, envisages recruiting young soldiers on a contractual basis for four years and retire 75 per cent of them without certain benefits enjoyed by those who were not employed under this programme.

Exactly a month after he left the country, Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, who is facing charges of sexually abusing many women, has said he will appear before the Special Investigation Team probing the cases against him on May 31. There was no independent confirmation from the JD(S) or the family of the suspended party MP immediately over the matter.

Election Commission said Jammu and Kashmir recorded the highest voter turnout in a Lok Sabha poll in last 35 years, with the Kashmir Valley witnessing a "massive" 30 points jump in poll participation compared to 2019. The poll panel also said the combined voter turnout at the polling stations for the entire Union Territory with five Lok Sabha seats was 58.46 per cent.

A court in Pune allowed the police to take custody of Vishal Agarwal, the father of the 17-year-old involved in a car crash, from the Yerwada Central Jail in connection with the case of kidnapping and wrongful confinement of his driver. The Pune police had moved an application for a production warrant of the father in the kidnapping and wrongful confinement case.

NCW has claimed that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's former aide Bibhav Kumar, who has been accused of abusing AAP MP Swati Maliwal, was called to the chief minister's residence after she reached there and sought details on whose direction was he called. According to the report, Maliwal, the former DCW chief, alleged that she was assaulted by Kumar.

Describing them as "unsung heroes", BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Monday announced that groundsmen and curators of all the 10 regular IPL venues will be given Rs 25 lakh each as a token of appreciation for providing "brilliant pitches" during the league. The 10 regular venues for the IPL are Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Ahmedabad and Jaipur.
