The Congress was poised to win power in Karnataka, ousting the BJP from its only southern perch on Saturday in a boost to the grand old party ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections

The INC crossed 113-seat mark in the Assembly elections, the majority required to form the government, in Karnataka.

According to the Election Commission website, the party won 119 seats and was leading in 17 constituencies.

Elections to the 224-member Assembly took place on Wednesday.

 Later on, Congress supporters celebrated party's victory in the Karnataka Assembly elections, in Bangalore.

Hailing the Bharat Jodo Yatra's role for its success in the Karnataka assembly polls, the Congress on Saturday said in the clash of narratives between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the yatra, the cross-country foot march is a "clear winner".

"I thank all those who have supported us in the Karnataka elections. I appreciate the hardwork of BJP Karyakartas", tweets Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulating Congress on their victory. 

"I am happy we contested the Karnataka polls without using hate, bad language", says party leader Rahul Gandhi after their victorious win.

"I hope that Rahul Gandhi may become the Prime Minister of this country," comments Congress stalwart Siddaramaiah after the impressive election outcome.

"As the results firm up in Karnataka it is now certain that the Congress has won and the PM has lost," tweets Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh, after leads indicate majority in Karnataka polls.

Bangladeshi authorities on Saturday ordered hundreds of thousands of people on southeastern coastlines to evacuate as a "very dangerous" tropical cyclone was expected to make landfall in the country, threatening the Rohingya refugee camp, the world's largest.

“Directives have been issued to evacuate to safety hundreds of thousands in our southeastern coastlines,” a disaster management ministry spokesman told PTI.

"Cyclone 'Mocha' is coming. We have kept the cyclone centres and taken all types of preparations to tackle it," Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said.

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has asked the secretary general of WFI to hand over the official documents including financial instruments to its ad-hoc panel, making it clear the outgoing office bearers shall have no role in the running of the federation.

"With the Ad hoc Committee being in existence, the outgoing office bearers of the WFI shall have no role with respect to the exercise of any function of the NSF for discipline of Wrestling and shall not perform any administrative, financial, regulatory or any other role," said the IOA letter, which has also been marked to the ministry and the WFI secretary general.

The Delhi University is planning to begin the admissions process for admissions to undergraduate programmes through the Common Seat Allocation System by the month's end, a senior official said on Saturday.

The university will launch two separate portals for admissions to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

"Yesterday only, the results of the 12th class have been announced. The CUET UG is also starting later this month. We are in process to launch our admission procedure. Most probably it will begin the admission process by the month end," a senior varsity official said.

Two students allegedly hanged themselves at their homes in separate incidents of suicide in Delhi after the CBSE announced the Class 12 exam results, police said on Saturday.

A 16-year-old girl allegedly hanged herself at her home in west Delhi's Hari Nagar after scoring low marks in the exam, on the other hans, a 19-year-old girl hanged herself at her home on Friday after she failed the exam, police said.
