You vote for Hermione, Harry & ...

WE ASKED YOU, THE t2 READER, TO CHOOSE YOUR TOP THREE HARRY POTTER CHARACTERS. HERE’S HOW YOU VOTED

TT Bureau Published 13.07.17, 12:00 AM

OMG t2!! What did you do!! You literally brought tears to my eyes with this special Harry Potter edition! I was just waiting for this moment, when t2 would feature the 20 long years of Harry Potter. This is so nostalgic! My childhood had been dominated a lot by J.K. Rowling and I’m highly grateful to her for bringing Harry Potter into our innocent adolescence period.

My all-time favourite characters from the series are mostly women:

Hermione Granger, for her impeccable knowledge about almost everything! The smartest and bravest one among the three!
Nymphadora Tonks, for her sheer spunk and her style.
Mrs. Weasley, for her loving and caring nature and the way she treated Harry just like her own son.

Special Mention: How can anyone forget Professor McGonagall, who was probably the sassiest teacher anyone has come across!

Thank you t2, for bringing back so many memories. You made my day so special (Who are your top three Harry Potter characters? July 4)!

Sreoshi Bakshi

To pick out only three from the many that have helped me through heartbreaks, PMS and epic fights with my mom is unfair to say the least. Still, here I go:

1. Weasley Twins: Gred and Forge, I mean Fred and George, were the ones who helped us solemnly swear with pride even when the world thought we were up to no good. While one was the ‘holiest’ the other courted death with a smile. Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes represented our dreams and gave us courage to stray from the beaten path.

2. Fleur Delacour: It was not her shiny silver hair that had me going gaga but that moment when she snatched the ointment from Mrs. Weasley and applied it on Bill who’d been attacked by Greyback. And who can ever forget that epic line, “What do I care how ’e looks? I am good-looking enough for both of us, I theenk! All these scars show is zat my husband is brave!” Her fierce love and loyalty got me falling for ‘Phlegm’ again and again.

3. Hermione Granger: OK. Now this is really personal. I started reading Harry Potter at the age of 10 (I’m 23 now) and I met the socially awkward, not particularly attractive, braced, bright witch called Hermione who had quite a few flaws. I saw myself in her. And then I saw the first movie and it left me devastated. Emma Watson snatched Hermione away from me. The film Hermione was a flawless superhuman who handled all troubles academic, emotional, social with equal panache. It was as if someone had deprived me of the right of equating myself with Hermione. Hermione to me was strong, confident, assertive but above all HUMAN and FLAWED. She helped me feel good about myself, she helped me be. I wish they would never have cast the stunning Emma Watson as Hermione as it took away the chance from many girls to claim with pride, ‘I too am Hermione Granger’.

Choosing only three characters is more than difficult, but the top three would include:

The protagonist Harry Potter himself who went through all those phases of survival and experienced a lot of diverse abstractions which I always wanted to experience someday.

Secondly, Hermione Granger who, being Muggle-born, showed that learning and dedication can help achieve the goal. Her conscience and presence of mind attract me.

Finally, Rubeus Hagrid who extended a hand of care and support towards Harry and his friends during their ups and downs. The way he boosted Hermione in The Chamber of Secrets when she was called a Mudblood, made me cry.

Thank you so much dearest t2 for the wonderful article on Harry Potter. After the one and only Harry Potter, the character I like the most is Ginny Weasley. The sweet and beautiful sister of Ron Weasley attracts me like magnet. After Ginny, I just love Errol, Ron’s old owl. Next, it is Ron Weasley, Harry’s best friend.

Sourish Misra, Salt Lake

Every character is good. But there is no difficulty in figuring out the top three. They are of course Harry, Hermione and Ron.

Bristi Roy,
Aditya Academy Secondary School

My top three Harry Potter characters are Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley and Harry Potter.

Sharmila Mukherjee,
The BSS School

It’s quite hard to choose as almost all the characters have contributed something or the other to the story. My top three Harry Potter characters are:

1) Fred and George Weasley: Though two separate bodies, they share the same souls.
2) Remus Lupin: Just like Severus Snape, Lupin loved unconditionally without receiving any of it back from Harry.
3) Ginny Weasley: She was a perfect and well-deserving Gryffindor. She was loyal, extremely brave and intelligent. Ginny is my role model.

It will be a sin not to mention Severus Snape anywhere near the top favourite list. He is the bravest man in the history of HP.

I want to thank t2 for giving us yet another pleasant treat —  four whole pages on Harry Potter (it’s my birthday month and the month being the Harry Potter month makes it even more special to me!). All the characters are very special to me but if I am to name three characters then I have to choose Harry Potter, the boy who lived; Hermione Granger, the braniac; and Draco Malfoy.

Harry is that character who will let you imagine a world with him (yes, he is that relatable). I love Harry Potter immensely. Hermione is that smart nerdy girl who will definitely remind you of the most intelligent, first-bencher classmate always raising their hand to answer every question. Lastly, I really like Draco Malfoy. He followed the footsteps of other Slytherin members yet we couldn’t hate him whole-heartedly. And not to forget, his unrequited love for Hermione. Draco leaves a mark somewhere in your heart by the end. I wish I could add more members from my Hogwarts family!

Madhurima Sarkar,

Thank you for giving us magic lovers such a wonderful  chance on writing about Harry Potter and its characters. My top three favourite are.

1. Albus Dumbledore, the headmaster of Hogwarts. I love him because of his long beard, eccentric  manner and his love for Potter.

2. Harry Potter, because without him the story is incomplete. Harry’s bravery is to be appreciated as is his love for his two very dear friends Hermione and Ron. Also his intelligence and, most importantly, I love his glasses.

3. Rubeus Hagrid, because of his kind heart and his jolly behaviour. But most importantly I just love his love for unsuitable pets.

I would like to thank J.K. Rowling for writing such an amazing  series of books.

Prajukta Sen,
Loreto Day School Dharamtala

It’s truly hard to pick the top three Harry Potter characters because I loved many of them. Okay, the first trophy goes to Hermione Granger. Her cute self and quick reply always kept her apart from the crowd. Second trophy goes to Ron Weasley and Harry Potter. Ron’s expressions and Harry’s innocence always attracted me. The third trophy goes to three people Albus Dumbledore, Severus Snape and Rubeus Hagrid. They were the three important pillars of Harry Potter.

Tua Ghatak, Salt Lake

This is how I will rank my top three HP characters —

1. Hermione Granger, the girl who could have easily fitted in Ravenclaw, but was a true Gryffindor nonetheless. Despite being bullied for being a Muggle, she emerges a hero (hero, note the word) at the end of the story.

2. Sirius Black, a carefree and wise man who had to meet an untimely death. Maybe if he had told Harry how the mirror worked, maybe if he had stayed back instead of going to fight in the Ministry, he would still be alive (sigh!).

3. Minerva McGonagall, the sassy old woman who is brave, strong and intelligent, the embodiment of how a good teacher should be.

What is best is Rowling’s intelligent ways of designing a character, so that it’s the reader who decides what a character is, not the author. Long live Harry Potter!

Titas Choudhury

My top three are...

Severus Snape: He protected Harry even though he didn’t want to, only because Dumbledore asked him to. That proves one striking feature about him and that is loyalty! Till the very end of Dumbledore he did not, even for once, stray away from their plan. His long unrequited love for Lily only enhances this quality of his, ‘Always’.

Rubeus Hagrid: Even though he did not have the perfect childhood, he grew up to be a kind, generous and loving being. Hagrid is like that candy which remains your favourite even when there are new flavours.

Hermione Granger: Bushy hair, sparkling eyes, impeccable wit and a beautiful soul, she is special! Not being a pureblood did not get in her way of becoming the “smartest witch” of the HP world! If they ask what a girl should be like, I say, just like Hermione Granger! #girlgoals

And Harry is everyone’s fave as without him, this world wouldn’t have existed : )

Aakanksha Dutta
Aditya Academy Secondary School, Dum Dum

My top three Harry Potter characters are Albus Dumbledore, because there is something very appealing and respectable about his personality especially in the way he behaves, talks, does his duty as headmaster and his soft-corner for Harry.

The second one is Severus Snape. Actually, I pity him. No doubt he is one of the greatest wizards and professors of Hogwarts but he has always been unlucky. He loved Lily Potter but he was not loved back. He was a Slytherin but still he had some remarkable qualities.

The third character has to be Sirius Black. Like Snape,he is also an inspiring father figure for Harry. And in the Order of the Phoenix, he fights side by side with Harry and tells the bad guys, “Don’t you dare touch my son”.

Arkajit Datta Gupta, Barrackpore

Harry Potter is life and so are the characters. But there are some who are my all-time favourites.

1. Sirius Black: Harry’s godfather who gave the boy a taste of family. The man who was fiercely loyal to his best friend and spent the majority of his life as a victim but never bowed his head, breathing his last while trying to save his godson.

2. Albus Dumbledore: The man who had a twinkle in his eyes and said, “Trust Harry. He is the only hope we have.” He spoke little but whatever he did left a deep impression not only on Harry but on me as well.

3. Severus Snape: From the very beginning he was a man of contradictions, leaving the readers baffled as to which side he was on. But he was one of the bravest men in Hogwarts. His last words, “You have your mother’s eyes”, still bring tears to my eyes.

Ayushi Ray, Bethune College

#1 My No. 1 favourite is Albus Dumbledore. He was a great teacher. He always showed Harry the right door and taught him that it’s his choice whether to open that door.

#2 Severus Snape: Yes it was unexpected. How a villain turned out to be a hero. Which he was from the beginning but we couldn’t see it. And his love for Lily is pure and beautiful.

#3 Hermione Granger: A Muggle-born who wrote her own destiny. Without her Harry and Ron wouldn’t survive a minute. She is the perfect example of a girl who has beauty with brains. She taught us reading can save your life.

Astha Jha, Brainware University

t2, it is one of the most difficult things to choose top three Harry Potter characters. But without any doubt Albus Dumbledore will always top my list. It was because of him that Harry could defeat Voldemort by destroying the horcruxes. It was he who employed Snape as the spy. Moreover, Dumbledore was the most brilliant wizard of that era. It was he who saw through Tom Riddle at an early age.

Ron and Hermione will be second on my list. Without them Harry could not have defeated You-Know-Who. Ron’s knowledge of wizard-chess, his simplicity, along with Hermione’s intelligence always helped Harry.
Dolores Umbridge will be third on my list. Simply because of her evilness. Voldemort or Bellatrix were also evil but they had reasons but Umbridge just enjoyed the evil things she did. And that’s why she is the most hated character of the whole series.

Rishika Dutta

My top three HP characters are:

1. Ron Weasley: Without Ron, Harry would be nowhere. He deserves to be first on the list. Sometimes I really wish I had a best friend like Ron *sigh*

2. Neville Longbottom: He could have been in Harry’s place and named “The Boy Who Lived”, and deserves the second place. He is an underrated character. Nobody can forget him pulling Gryffindor’s sword from the Sorting Hat at the Battle of Hogwarts and killing Nagini!

3. Hermione Granger: Harry’s other best friend deserves a place in the top three because she is brave, brilliant and so good in academics!

Kaushikee Bhattacharya,
Adamas International School

My all-time favourite character is Hermione Jean Granger, because undoubtedly I am the biggest HERMIONIC POTTERHEAD. She is everything for me. Everything from her wit to her attitude is simply the best. My second fave is Harry himself as without him the story of the Chosen One is meaningless. And thirdly, Neville Longbottom for his bravery and loyalty.

Rohita Sarkar, The BSS School

My top three characters are obviously Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley and Harry himself. They have set the perfect example of friendship in my heart. #BeingPotterhead

Sukham Sidhu

The character who tops my favourites list is Severus Snape, with his complicated life and ‘love’ for Harry’s mother Lily Potter. Second on my list is Lord Voldemort, who shows the world what a real villain should be. The third person is Rubeus Hagrid who has an extreme love for pets.

Spandan Mallick,
Calcutta Boys’ School

Harry Potter and Hogwarts have been my constant companion since the age of 11,when I first started reading Harry Potter. Since then my life has been magical. Naturally, all the characters of HP were favourites. My favourite undoubtedly are the Golden Trio. Without them the list is incomplete. But some other characters too have left a lasting impression. They are :

Ginny Weasley: From the shy girl to the brave one, she was a girl whom we all looked up to.
Luna Lovegood: The dreamy girl! Even if she was a little weird, we did love her!
Neville Longbottom: From the clumsy first-year student to the brave boy who killed Nagini, he was an example of achieving the impossible!

Rajannya Dasgupta, Ashok Hall Girls’ Higher Secondary School

Hermione Granger because she is Muggle-born but still the best witch of her age. Also because she has a strong affection for house elves causing her to start SPEW.
Harry Potter for his bravery and loyalty. Oh, and for killing Voldemort.
Luna Lovegood because she stood up for Harry even in difficult times.

Radhika Mitra,
Modern High School for Girls

For me, the following are the top three:
1. Severus Snape
2. Harry Potter
3. Albus Dumbledore.

Subham De

Well at the top of the list lies the when-in-doubt-go-to-the-library girl, Hermione, then comes Professor Albus Dumbledore, a man of great wisdom, and last but not the least,The Boy Who Lived, Harry Potter, for he has all the important qualities to be a good wizard. *smiles*

Aditya Bhura

Each and every character of the series is of much significance, since they all together make Harry Potter what it is today. Here are my top three characters...

1. Harry Potter: Without Harry himself, Harry Potter would be incomplete. Kind-hearted, brave, intelligent, loyal, powerful, friendly, Harry is all in one. ‘The Boy Who Lived’ is making life worth living.

2. Albus Dumbledore: The long-bearded, lovable and talented headmaster of Hogwarts makes Harry’s life easier amidst the evil people.

3. Draco Malfoy: Had he not created problems in Harry’s life at Hogwarts, had he not been evil, could we have enjoyed the suspense of how Harry would overcome the big problems? And after all he’s not wholly a bad guy.

Dimple Periwal, St. Xavier’s College

Harry Potter involves a dark magical outline. So a bunch of magical jokes would not do any harm right? As a fun-loving Potterhead, my No. 1 are the chief troublemakers of Hogwarts — Fred and George Weasley. From being the best-loved twins in the magical and Muggle world to opening a fantastic joke shop to becoming brave heroes in the Battle of Hogwarts, they have been a super-hit (I will never forgive Rowling for killing Fred).

No. 2 goes to Ginny Weasley. Exceptionally loyal and brave and a blazing Quidditch player, Ginny could not stand being called inferior to her six brothers. She could hex them even before they could take out their wands. She was the best girl for Harry.

No. 3 is one of the most doubted characters who turned out the best — Severus Snape. Snape showed us that love will always, ALWAYS exist even if the one you love is millions of light years away. He taught us that heroes can be born from the most unexpected places and that even if people misjudge you, if you know that you are right then one day they will all be compelled to admit that you were right.

Shovanghi Biswas, Ashok Hall Girls’ Higher Secondary School

1. Luna Lovegood: She is a perfect combination of quirky and smart. Her capability to see good in every situation and to weigh the positives over negatives makes her one of the strongest fictional characters.

2. Xenophilius Lovegood: The editor of The Quibbler, and eccentric father of Luna, is one of my favourite characters. Though we don’t see him much, he has a very strong role to play in the final book.

3. Hermione Granger: She inspired millions of young girls to find their true self and respect themselves for what they are. Besides the brain, she was a beauty and deserved so much better (I mean Ron).

Nayaab Masud

My top three HP characters are:

1. Nymphadora Tonks: Tonks is a favourite because she always stayed true to herself. Along with top-notch fashion sense, she was always kind and generous. She accepted Remus and loved him even after knowing he was a werewolf. She was a fighter and her loss during the battle of Hogwarts was one of the most heartbreaking things ever.

2. Luna Lovegood: She inspired us to cherish our weirdness. I love Luna. I love how she believes in the good. I love how she is always there to help. I love how amazingly different and kind she is. She is one of the greatest wizards that Ravenclaw ever had and one of the bravest members of Dumbledore’s Army.

3. Rubeus Hagrid: Right from the beginning, we learned how helpful, loyal and kind he was. His childlike behaviour was always one of the best things about the series. It is true indeed, “There is no Hogwarts without you, Hagrid”.
P. S. Sobbing over the fact that I had to only mention three. Can’t help but say that Sirius Black and Professor McGonagall were two of the finest and most lovable characters too.

Salomi Ishita Datta,
Scottish Church College

My fave three HP characters are —

1) Of course Harry himself. The Boy Who Lived showed us how you trust your friends and overcome any obstacles in your path.
2) Sirius Black, Harry’s godfather.
3) Severus Snape, who sacrificed himself to save Harry. He’ll ALWAYS be in our hearts.

Rohini Chakraborty, Salt Lake

The Harry Potter series is an inseparable part of my childhood. Almost every character is close to my heart, so it is difficult to decide the top three. But I am writing my top three with reasons.

1. Severus Snape: I hated Snape from the first day I read about him in Philosopher’s Stone. Since then my emotions about him swung like a pendulum from hatred to “maybe he is on Harry’s side” till the sixth book. After which my hatred reached its peak. Then it took a 180-degree turn and he became my favourite, not because of his unrequited love but because of his relatability to us. He made wrong choices and terrible mistakes, faced heartbreak and failure which led him to the dark side, but then he gave his everything for the right side without letting anyone know. He taught me that we all make wrong choices, we may face failure and end up on the dark side but there is hope to rise above the darkness and become the bravest person.

2. Neville Longbottom: The timid, shy, and confused Gryffindor student stole my heart the day I read the end of Philosopher’s Stone. The courage he showed by standing against his friends made me wish that this character would be made the bravest by the end of the series. And I was happy that my wish got fulfilled. He faced every kind of struggle one can face in life yet he never gave up, and the boy who took the longest time to use the disarming charm in Dumbledore’s Army ended up finding the sword of Gryffindor and destroying Nagini. The moment he opposed Voldemort knowing that Harry is dead will always remain one of my favourites.

3. Remus Lupin: From the day I read about the Marauders in the Prisoner of Azkaban, all of them became close to me (except Peter). I was touched by their bond. But Remus was always the closest. I started liking him even before knowing the past, from the moment he appeared on the Hogwarts Express and saved Harry from the dementors. This man showed that feelings and emotions are not weaknesses but strengths and they give you the courage to fight with your own self as well as with others. Remus making Harry the godfather of Teddy will always be one the most emotional moments for me.

Ritrisha Banerjee

I have about five or six favourite characters from the Harry Potter series but I had to pick three so —

Peeves: His name does absolute justice to Hogwarts’ resident poltergeist for all he ever does is make everyone peeved. He wreaks havoc upon unsuspecting students, is very cheeky, and unapologetic about his actions and all this makes for quite a few amusing moments in the books, like calling Lupin ‘Loony, loopy Lupin’.

Dobby: Unlike Colin Creevey, whose admiration for Harry got on one’s nerves, Dobby’s admiration for Harry translates into fierce loyalty and he does literally everything he possibly can to get him out of harm’s way. Whether it is in the way he takes care of Winky or gifts Harry mismatched socks for Christmas or calls Ron ‘Wheezy’, Dobby is simply endearing and one of the most memorable characters of this series.

Remus Lupin: He is my favourite among the Marauders and one of my favourite characters in the series. Of all the classes in Hogwarts, Lupin’s classes seemed to be the most interesting from his class on Boggarts to the obstacle course he sets for the third-year examination. He is a father figure to Harry and is the conscience and the voice of reason among his friends. As an individual, he suffered a lot but he never gave up. Even Rowling said on Pottermore that Lupin was one of her favourite characters and she hated killing him.

Rupanjali Samadder,
Gokhale Memorial Girls’ College

My first preference is Dobby, the house elf who tries to save Harry’s life. His end is tragic. Ginny Weasley, Harry’s girlfriend and wife’s sombre, quiet nature and shyness make her lovable. And finally Garrick Ollivander, the best wand-maker in the world. His memory is astonishing. His ability to remember all the individual wands he sold to all the customers is brilliant. An extraordinary man with some awesome quality.

Kousik Majumdar, Belghoria

I am writing my first letter to you on this topic as I am a die-heart Harry Potter fan!! For me the top three characters are obviously Harry, Ron and Hermione. Throughout the series we can see that Harry as a hero could never defeat Voldemort all on his own. He was a hero but not the hero. He always won because he had some help. If Ron and Hermione were not his friends we can just imagine Harry’s condition. Nobody could handle Harry’s mood swings better than his friends. Moreover, what would he do if clever Hermione was not there to use the correct spells?

Niharika Tripathi
Aditya Academy Senior Secondary

Being an ardent Potterhead, it is quite impossible to choose my top three Harry Potter characters, of course! My top three will always be the Golden Trio. But besides them, these are my choices:

1.  Severus Snape —  The way he bravely sacrificed his life to save Harry due to his everlasting love for Lily Potter will always portray him as a hero in my eyes.

2. Fred and George Weasley — The Weasley twins are always there to lighten the mood with their tricks.

3. Remus Lupin — Besides being an amazing Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, he has been a very caring friend to James as well as Harry.

Aneesha Das,
Calcutta Girls’ High School

1. Sirius Black: He knew that his thoughts, approaches were different from the rest of his family but never ever compromised with his values. Sirius’s loyalty, love towards his friends, especially his godson Harry, is really appreciable. Sirius’s death in Order of Phoenix was a tearjerker!

2. Hermione Granger: The warrior woman, who knows perfectly well the utility of knowledge and wit. Initially she seems a bit snobbish but turns out to be a perfect blend of beauty and brains.

3. Dobby: His loyalty to Harry and his friends was so much that he didn’t hesitate to take any risk for them. From warning Harry of danger in his second year to arresting Mundungus Fletcher to the rescue at Malfoy Manor, Dobby played a major part.

There’s a fourth one too! The man who has set serious goals of love and friendship for us, Severus Snape! You will remain my hero, “Always”!

Sreya Chakraborty
Department of Law, Hazra Campus

Severus Snape: ‘The Half-blood Prince’ was the most complex, debatable and unpredictable character. From rescuing the boy wizard from Quirrell to occlumency training, Snape was Harry’s guardian angel all along. He was more loathed than the Dark Lord himself for killing Dumbledore. From being the most hated to most loved, Snape will remain the most beloved character. “Always”.

Hermione Granger: She is a bookworm, speaks her mind and always stands up for herself and her friends. My shero. Enough Said.

Harry Potter: He was orphaned at an early age, endured a miserable childhood, protected the Philosopher’s Stone, solved the mystery of the Chamber of Secrets, learned how to conjure a corporeal stag Patronus at the age of thirteen, encountered Voldemort and sacrificed himself. He saved the world from You-Know-Who. A loyal friend, leader and saviour, “The Boy Who Lived” remains a favourite.

Paulami Chakraborty

My fave characters are Harry, Hermione and Dobby.

Pritikana Bhattacharyya

It’s just impossible to choose only three!!!!!! But, I would like to mention the Harry Potter trio for their friendship and love for each other. Severus Snape for being extremely loyal to Dumbledore and his love for Harry and his mother. And all those who stood with Harry during the time of his distress.

Anirban Chakraborty

Being a desperate Potterhead, I always put Albus Dumbledore at the top of my list. He unsurpassingly loves Harry and saves him from the worst situations. His acts not only made him my favourite character but also made me revere him. The second name is Ronald Weasley (Ron). A dauntless but sometimes daunted character who supports Harry in his adventures. And lastly Severus Snape, who never thought about his life and protected Harry.

Tiyasha Purohit

In the list of my top three characters in Harry Potter the first one is always and obvious, Harry himself. Second it would be Hermione Granger. She has always been a source of inspiration for me. I loved her stern and smart attitude. The third is none other than Professor Dumbledore. I loved his appearance and his slight partiality towards Harry, but without discriminating against anyone, and his outstanding administration of Hogwarts.

Catherine Nisha Halder

1. Hermione Granger: Her quiet struggle to fit in while also being bossy is something that I relate to. Her spirit and her bravery will always inspire me.

2. Harry Potter: He taught me the value of loyalty, of friendship and bravery. He will always remain a huge hero of my childhood.

3. Rubeus Hagrid: Harry Potter would never have been the same if not for Hagrid. Right from the start, he has always been there for Harry and for me. The Hogwarts Gamekeeper will always remain one of Rowling’s most endearing and wonderful characters.

Sudarshana Ganguly
Modern English Academy

Dear t2, thank you very much for Potter@20. My top three HP characters would be:

1. Ron Weasley — The moment he offered the stranger on the train half his sandwich even though it was all he had, he proved himself the best. He sacrifices himself at 11 to save his friends, and stands on broken bones at 13, facing a murderer to protect his best mate. Ron is not flawless, but he admits his mistakes. Weasley certainly is my King.

2. Sirius Black — To me, Sirius is an epitome of loyalty, and is a man of his words. He is one of the most abused and tragic characters of HP.

3. Remus Lupin — He is the best DADA teacher ever, and plays a great role in Harry’s character development. He is kind, and knows how to bring the best out of people. He would do anything to protect his loved ones. And, he carries chocolate with him all the time!

Anuska Ghosh,
Barasat Kalikrishna Girls’ High School

Among all the wonderful characters it is difficult to assign ranking to any three. But as dear t2 has requested, my top three characters would be:

1. Severus Snape — For being covert in expressing his love for Lily and risking his life to save Harry’s.
2. Hermione Granger — I liked the way she kept her temper and led  their mission. It was because of her that the trio managed to succeed their adventure along with Harry’s bravery and Ron’s support.
3. Dobby — I connected with him in the second book and did not want to believe the fact that he was dead in book seven. His unconditional love, respect and untold duty to protect Harry evoke great respect for him. May his soul R.I.P. #LongLiveDobby

Ritacheta Ray

Thanks for such wonderful long pages on 20 years of Harry Potter. I am and always be in love with them. My three top characters are Albus Dumbledore (difficult to spell his last name), second would be Severus Snape (obviously the most complex person), and third would be Fred and George Weasley and the amazing Wealseys’ Wizard Wheezes.

Anjali Shah

1. Hermione Granger: Intially I was quite infuriated with Hermione for being “an insufferable know-it-all” However as the series advanced, my love and admiration for Hermione grew. She was the emotional pillar of the golden trio and they wouldn’t have been able to make one rational and good decision without her! She is an icon of feminism.

2. Severus Snape: When you spend more than six books hating a character, it’s no easy task to start loving him. And yet, Snape proved us wrong. He was a man who was even braver than most Gryffindors, even Dumbeldore, according to me. The long-standing argument that all Slytherins are cowards went down the drain in a single chapter of Deathly Hallows.

3. Draco Malfoy: I have a HUGE fangirl crush on Draco Malfoy! But that aside I believe him to be one of the most wronged characters of the series. He extended the hand of friendship — it was Harry who didn’t accept, in quite an uncivil manner, I must say. He was forced to be a Death Eater at the tender age of 16. His reluctance to kill his headmaster showed us that maybe he wasn’t that bad a person after all.

Debeshi Mandal
Modern English Academy, Barrackpore

Snape, Dumbledore, and Malfoy are the top three that come to mind. They are more interesting than most of the other cookie-cutter characters.

Sourav Sarkar, South City College

Thanks a lot Team t2 for making my day amazing with this article. It’s really hard to choose only three as it would be an injustice to the remaining characters. Still, my top three would be:

1. Severus Snape: He taught us the power of love and was brave enough to trick the Dark Lord.
2. Hermione Granger: The genius lady who taught us the value of friendship and never missed a chance to prove her Gryffindor instincts.
3. Harry Potter: How can we not talk about the Chosen One? His nature of treating all as equals is what pleases me the most. Also his courage to face every fear, even death, makes him so special.
