Singer, composer, multi-instrumentalist, performer — Zubeen Garg donned many hats. From soulful ballads to chart-topping hits, the late musician had carved a special place for himself in Indian music with his versatility and depth. As fans continue to mourn his untimely passing on September 19 following a scuba diving accident in Singapore, here’s a look at his most memorable songs that continue to echo in playlists and memories alike.

Ya Ali (2006)

Considered Zubeen’s breakthrough song in Bollywood, Ya Ali was composed by Pritam Chakraborty and penned by Sayeed Qadri. The song is from Anurag Basu’s 2006 romantic thriller Gangster: A Love Story, which stars Kangana Ranaut, Emraan Hashmi and Shiney Ahuja in the lead roles.

Piya Re Piya Re (2008)

Besides Hindi, Zubeen sang in Bengali, Assamese and 40 other languages, including Boro, English, Goalpariya, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Odia, Sanskrit, Tamil, and Telugu. The Bengali song Piya Re Piya Re from the Raj Chakraborty directorial Chirdini Tumi Je Amar features Rahul Banerjee and Priyanka Sarkar. The track was composed by Jeet Gannguli and Priyo Chattopadhyay.

Mon Mane Na (2008)

Following the success of Piya Re Piya Re, Zubeen and Gannguli collaborated on a number of other Bengali songs, including the title track of the 2008 romance film Mon Mane Na directed by Sujit Guha. The film marked the second collaboration between Koel Mallick and Dev after Premer Kahini (2008).

Dil Tu Hi Bataa (2013)

The Krrish 3 song was picturised on Bollywood stars Hrithik Roshan and Kangana Ranaut. Composed by Rajesh Roshan and written by Sameer Anjaan, the romantic song was sung by Zubeen alongside Alisha Chinai.

Prem Ki Bujhini (2017)

Dev and Koel Mallick’s chartbuster Prem Ki Bujhini from Rajiv Kumar Biswas’s 2011 romantic action film Paglu marked yet another collaboration between Zubeen and Gannguli. The hit track also featured vocals by Akriti Kakkar. The song was penned by Prasen.
