Shankar, Ehsaan, Loy and Farhan Akhtar rocked audiences with their magnificent live performance on Monday night at Infinity Mall, Andheri. Directed by Abhishek Kapoor and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan, Rock On!! also marks the debut of Farhan the actor alongside TV actress Prachi Desai.

The film also stars Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli, Shahana Goswami and Luke Kenny. Proud father Javed Akhtar unveiled the Rock On!! album at the Monday event. Director Abhishek had interesting things to say about the music of the film, releasing on August 29. “Every day of recording the music was an exploration into something fresh, radical and original. Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy took to the script like fish to water and gave it a powerhouse soundtrack straight from the heart. And Javedsaab was a complete revelation.”

The highlight of the album is Farhan Akhtar the singer. The album consists of nine tracks, of which Farhan has sung five himself. The Don and Dil Chahta Hai director trained with Shankar Mahadevan for vocals and Ehsaan Noorani for rhythm guitar. As for the rest of the cast, who play band members in the film, Purab Kohli trained with Lindsay D’Mello on drums, Arjun Rampal trained with Chandresh from the band Dream Out Loud and Luke Kenny worked with Loy Mendosa.

Commenting on making music for this film, producer Ritesh Sidhwani said: “Rock On!! will be a cult film. The experience of creating music for this film has been fascinating and exhilarating... Rock On!! is a youth-oriented film, so the music needed a distinct sound, keeping in mind contemporary appeal along with melodious tracks, which these music maestros have woven together effortlessly.”

Rock On!! is a story about four friends who put together the greatest band this country had ever seen but never made it. Years later, fate conspires to bring them together again and set them on a journey back to where they left off. “A soul-searching pilgrimage into their past.”

The film boasts of a super technical team headed by cinematographer Jason West, production designer Shashank Tere and costume designer Niharika Khan.
